I've booked tickets for the WYP but given the abysmal reviews from Australia I am almost regretting it.

It's being re-written by Terry Johnson and with Drew McOnie directing and choreographing, I think it will be rather special. I read somewhere that Baz Lurhman is letting the Brits get on with it. The Aussie reviews weren't great but the main criticisms were that the film was plonked onto the stage and expected to succeed. I would imagine the Producers have expectations for a life after Leeds.

I saw this when I was in Sydney and it was one of the most excruciating shows I've ever had to sit through. I must admit, I don't know the film, but I was expecting much more (including dancing).
Some of the people sat near me found it hilarious though, but it was very much geared towards Australian humour.
The rewrites are certainly needed.

That's what I am hoping for, I can't see them just throwing the same show that gained such bad reviews on to the stage here. |
