Is this a running theme at the REX,sure WSS publicity was done in the backstreets of Ancoats or somewhere.This looks like near the old Granada Studios ?Cheap and not so cheerful.

Or do you mean intentional comedy?

First preview on Friday was cancelled apparently due to a cast member being “injured”. Was anyone due to be there? The REX said that the Saturday perfs would be going ahead.

So out of an audience of, potentially, 750, an actor was 'randomly' selected to read a few words. What are the chances?
I was at a performance tonight in Doncaster where the audience was randomly selected to participate. Thankfully, I was sitting on the back row.

I attended this today’s matinee performance and having had chance to chew over the production whilst on my way to watch MAME at the Hope Mill, on the whole I’ve got mixed feelings about this production. On the gender swap of Macbeth, I thought this worked really well and Lucy Ellison’s portrayal as Macbeth is a one that plays with peoples preconceptions about gender, ambition and violence. It’s certainly a powerful performance.
This is a brutally violent and bloody version and there are plenty of shocking moments in this respect that is all played out in modern combat uniforms and other modern dress. The REX version is definitely not your traditional Macbeth production. There really is minimal staging in this production. The most we get is in the banquet scene with a table of food and plenty of balloons and a bit of confetti for good measure.
There are some nice moments away from the violence such as the appearance of the ghost of Banquo which is cleverly done.
Though where I felt it didn’t quite work for me was firstly with the witches. For me, they didn’t come across that well and certainly I didn’t get that mystical element of the the play that they bring. Also, Lady M played by Ony Uhiara didn’t come across as the goading ruthless character very well for me.
Despite these criticisms, not a bad afternoon at the REX.
