2hrs 50 mins which includes 1 x 20 min interval according to the website. Many thanks Thinking of hot footing it across to Sheffield afterwards to see Guys and Dolls, wondering if it is durable? I thought about doing Gypsy and St Scene (Leeds) in the same day but decided against it.

Nah it’s doable. If it finishes at 5,20 you could get either the 5.38 or the 6.18 to Sheffield. The 6.18 is into Sheff at 7.08 so is still doable although doesn’t allow much time for delays.

Or for getting from REX to Manchester Piccadilly or Sheffield station to the Crucible. If you're in a taxi you're at the mercy of traffic and if you walk it's around 10-15 mins either end if you know the shortest routes.

It would probably take longer in a taxi than walking it. There’s time to walk it a both ends though if you get a wiggle on. I’m not suggesting it’s without risk, but it’s possible to do it.
Also, the only train back to Manchester after guys and dolls will be the stopping service which takes ages, and on Saturday it leaves at 10.24. The one on weekdays is a bit later so more time available to get to the station but doesn’t chug into Piccadilly until after midnight.

You reckon I can get for the REX to Picc in 18 minutes?

You reckon I can get for the REX to Picc in 18 minutes? I'd still say that getting out of the REX, to Piccadilly and onto the platform/train in 18 minutes would require a huge amount of luck to pull off. Also, Guys and Dolls has a 7:15pm start, which you wouldn't make if you're scheduled to arrive at 7:08pm.

17 mins according to the Goog. I was more thinking of getting the later train but if the start time for G&D is 7.15 that’s no good. So I retract my “ do-able” statement!

Thinking of hot footing it across to Sheffield afterwards to see Guys and Dolls, wondering if it is durable? Well it received its premier in 1950! I've learnt the hard way that, on TheatreBoard, it's usually best not to make any comment about train times. Although BurlyBeaR is never wrong, he's not always right either.

Not seeing it myself until the new year though.

You’ve either got it, or you ain’t. And Ria’s got it.
I knew she’d be good in this and she is. She plays it big, big, big and if you don’t like that vibrato/tremor she’s developed in recent years then don’t see it because it’s present throughout. If that doesn’t bother you then she knocks it out of the park, and got extended applause for Rose’s Turn.
The whole cast are good. Melissa James confidently handles the evolution of Louise and the transformations in act 2 as she becomes a star are cleverly executed in the round. Dale Rapley as Herbie is great and has more than a touch of the Carl Malden’s about him. Fantastic dancing by Louis Gaunt as Tulsa.
Gimmick is hilaire with a fabulous Mazeppa and an Electra with Rupaul's Drag Race UK twist... I’ll say no more 😆
One minor issue was the US accents of a couple of the male ensemble, but it’s first preview FFS given them a break! 😡
It’s four big teddies from me 🧸🧸🧸🧸

Of all the productions of Gypsy I've ever seen, this was certainly the most... recent.
And the show has one of the greatest overtures in the American musical theatre canon. You DO NOT cut chunks out of it. At least, you don't if you have any taste.

Forgot the most important info. Started at 7.35 and finished at a whopping 10.50. Interval felt it might have been a couple of minutes longer than normal but not significant. I don’t see how they could tighten it up really, it was very slick. Is it usually that long? I can’t recall the Savoy version being so late. And lovely to meet our very own North West reporter david 👋

As a 1st preview, that was absolutely terrific from the cast tonight with a really slick production that flew by. Ria Jones was for me sublime both vocally and in her portrayal of Rose. She nailed her big numbers with ease. Melissa James as Louise was brilliant. Totally owning the second Act with her numbers. The biggest laughs of the night came from “You Gotta Get a GImmick” which was just so much fun to watch. From reading the programme, the fantastic musical score is realised by an orchestra of 8 which are housed in the 1st Gallery. I didn’t notice any sound mixing issues tonight and really enjoyed listening to them. The choreography was slick and being such an intimate auditorium it really was a joy to watch (particularly Louis Gaunt). As an added bonus, it was nice to bump into our very own BurlyBeaR tonight! 🐻 I think the REX has another hit on its hands with this production. 4⭐️. Get yourself a ticket for this!
