Ivano Turco is on the shelf with an injury so we had a replacement tonight who’s name I’ve already forgotten but he was very good, felt he had a nice rapport with Fletcher and delivered some really funny lines. First time seeing it tonight so can’t compare him with Ivano.
Lord Webber and his team were sat three rows in front of me making notes all night, so that was interesting, though I had to really try and stop myself from spying on their notepads.
Overall I enjoyed it, it’s not going to change the world of musical theatre and I see it more becoming a popular October to February Christmas/New Year touring show down the road. Story does need some work, Godmother and Charming need to be planted/seeded much stronger in the narrative and Cinderella needs something to do in act one before the ball is announced.
I have spent worse nights at the theatre, looking at you White Christmas.

Well, my cast recording has arrived, a day early! Sadly the packaging is a bit lacking - no lyrics, no full musician credits. I generally have high expectations of cast albums in terms of packaging (e.g. a hefty booklet containing the full script) but sadly that seems to happen less and less. Makes the product seem less special, somehow.
I haven't played it yet. Having been disappointed by the score in the theatre - not the music per se, but its bizarre mix of styles and sound worlds, along with cheap and nasty pre-programmed instrumentation, I don't know how it will hold up on the recording. I don't know if the full live orchestra was only added to a few tracks or if it plays throughout, for example. I hope we don't have those horrid synth-trumpets but I won't be surprised if we do. One nice thing is Simon Lee is conducting the orchestra, which is always a good sign.

I'm looking forward to giving it a listen. I haven't listened to any of the songs already released as I like listening to cast recordings and not solos. I like the narrative that backs it up and that is what makes an album not a 32 bar pop hit.
When it's recorded prior to opening night I question how true is it to the actual show.
A highlights CD is my idea of hell!

Listening now. Everything before ‘Bad Cinderella’ has been a mess. Does it get any better?!?

So far… it’s got worse It really is utter crap. This is what he’s been working on for years?! He never used to write tuneless rubbish like this. The lyrics are vile and totally inappropriate for any kids seeing this.

The lyrics are vile and totally inappropriate for any kids seeing this. It's just not a children's show. But it's not an adult show either. I'm really not sure what it is. I think I've said this before, but it feels like something a student drama society cooked up to take to Edinburgh. There are a couple of bits I've heard on the recording so far that were cut from the show (Sarah Brightman's cameo, and more details on the defacing of the statue) that heighten this even more. But maybe it's just not my sense of humour? I mean, lots of people must like Mrs Brown's Boys, which just baffles me, so who can say what people find funny!

For people wondering if there would be recycling in this.
“Moment of Triumph” is Shonagh Daly’s “A Touch of Love”, another part of which already reappeared in Stephen Ward.

Don’t even start me on the completely unnecessary swearing in an attempt to be cool/interesting. It’s a fantasy world. If they needed to add swearing (and they absolutely didn’t) then they could have replaced the same words with alternative words or funny phrases - which actually might have been cool/interesting. I am even more angered and disappointed by the show 4 days later!

You might end up loving it when you see it live. Opinions are completely subjective

I do worry about certain people making extravagant proclamations about it in this thread without actually seeing it. I mean, having read all the comments about it I have no desire to see it but to trounce it so vehemently without actually seeing it seems odd and suggests that there is an agenda of some sort. Shame.

Well that is a complete shambles. Sounds so amateur and embarrassing.
Was it thrilling and exciting? Like hell it was.
Cinderella spins round more than the stage.. “I love him, but oh it’s far too late, woe is me” “I don’t need anyone I’m off of my own” “Oh you’re not married after all , come with me”
Groundbreaking!
The Stepmother makes a lot of boasts about the transformations she can perform… especially when the production photos imply all she did to Cinderella was to slap on too much makeup and stick her in a bin bag.
Can see why the Sea Witch rubbish was cut.
I know ALW writes the music before having lyrics, but I’m sure the lyricists must have a large impact on the final tunes after that. Except with Zippel, who seems to just plonk words on notes and leaves it at that. Sounds more like someone added lyrics to a film score than it being a musical.

For all those spouting bile about this show, there are more who seem to love it judging by the scores in the poll. The difference is, those who love it don't profess to do so on a daily basis. Some folk seem to revel in wanting to pour cold puke over this show, desperate to see it fail. I hope those who dislike it so much might find something more positive in their lives that they might grow to love and share their views about, instead of peeing on others' bonfires by continually trashing a show that is nowhere near as bad as some like to make out.

Who is spouting bile? I’ve just seen people offering personal and valued opinions on the show or the music. But not commenting on other people’s more positive personal opinions. Who is being negative about it on a daily basis? I’ve seen an equal mix of people talking about it positively and negatively on a regular basis. Who is desperate to see it fail? It’s quite possible for people to offer honest opinions on a show without thinking maliciously about its future, or lack of. I’ve just read a sentence above about wishing bad thoughts and karma on people for expressing honest opinions on a show. Whether it’s agreed with or not, that’s not an acceptable comment to make about other people, particularly as that hadn’t been reflected back. Bad form.

It's my view, and it's entirely your prerogative to differ. I've not wished "bad thoughts and karma". I've actually wished them love and positivity, as a means to fill the potential void that bitterness and vitriol currently seems to occupy.

Very bad form to think that others on the board are offering ‘bitterness and vitriol’ because people don’t agree with your opinion. This is an open space to share a variety of opinions, not attack or cast aspersions about people and their genuinely held opinions. What a shame it sank to personal attacks instead.

I didn’t see anybody challenge other people’s opinions or saying they were wrong. Only people expressing their positive or negative opinions about a show or the music. As in life. No bitterness or vitriol towards other board members. Sorry. Happy to be proved wrong though.
