Women empowerment don’t sell shows. That is G unticked. Ooft, well other people have pointed it out but that's wrong entirely! In fact the musical theatre industry has, for many decades, been a champion of the strong female lead. Right back to the days of Ethel Merman. One specific thing the genre does very well in fact, is create strong leading roles for mature women, such as Gypsy, Mame, Hello Dolly, The King and I etc. There was a huge trend back in the day as well, when work dried up in Hollywood for middle-aged lead actresses, to go to Broadway and lead a musical: Lauren Bacall, Angela Lansbury, Katharine Hepburn, Vivien Leigh, Debbie Reynolds, Maureen O'Hara, Ginger Rogers to name just a few! Musicals are all about the strong women!

I have no objections to shows on female empowerment, however it isn’t a decisive factor when buying a ticket. Three of the shows you named were flops on Broadway. It sounds as if you do have plenty of objections to female empowerment, and an alarming tendency to assume what a decisive factor in people buying tickets is without any evidence whatsoever. As others have pointed out, strong female roles have existed since the dawn of musicals. Yet instead you pick on a minority of the shows I listed. Never mind that countless male-led/dominated shows have flopped as well. Please stop making baseless and inaccurate assumptions about women and the attractiveness of strong women, it isn't helpful and it is actually hurtful.

I'm just listening to Rebecca Trehearn on an old Friday Night is Music Night, does that count? She has a very nice voice. She was terrific in CITY OF ANGELS (Donmar), SHOWBOAT (Sheffield Crucible) and DOGFIGHT (Southwark Playhouse) Fantastic powerhouse voice. She basically always steals whatever show she's in, whether she's a lead or not. She was a fab Lilli/Kate in the Watermills Kiss Me Kate too

Sorry wasn’t I clear enough on my last post when I said I am no issues on musicals about female empowerment. In fact one of my favourite musicals of all time is, that being Hairspray. However I thought we were talking about what makes a musical sell, from a list posted. It is absolutely fine if you want to take something and blow it all out of complete proportion.

I don't think you have issues with female empowerment at all, I'm not debating that. I just think that strong female characters DO sell tickets because... they always have! No one goes to see Gypsy to watch Herbie.

Just wondering, re: Cinderella...how long does it take for the confirmation email to come through after you book tickets? Even allowing for that it's been a bank holiday weekend I'm not used to having to wait. Usually confirmation of purchase emails are automatic.

Checked, but nothing. Thanks for the tip though.
I'll give it a few more days then I'll make contact and make sure everything is okay.

And most of the pictures and bios are up too. The alternate Cinderella is very pretty (and I'm sure a wonderful singer and actress too).

Looking at the pictures of the Queen and the Princes, I can only assume she's been nipping off to the Fairy Godmother for a bit of 'help'. Either that or she was a teenage mum!

Loved her in KMK -having seen the show on Broadway in the same year, still up there. (It's my favourite musical!)

Maybe she's only their stepmother? Which would make genetic sense given she's white & both Princes are black. Maybe Cinderella & Prince Sebastian could bond over both having stepmothers they don't get on with.
Given all the publicity a while back about Andy Rees as a Baker character, it's a bit odd to see him credited as a Swing on the website.

I don't think she can be their stepmother — there's no King around. So she must be Queen in her own right, otherwise Prince Charming would already be King. Another option would be that she's the regent for Prince Charming, but he'd still be called King, and is clearly over 18 anyway. If he's actually abdicated or is presumed dead, the crown would have gone to Prince Seb.
I suppose she could be Queen, who married a man with children and adopted them, but that doesn't seem to fit with conventional fairy tales tropes, and Belleville is all about the fairy tale tropes. Perhaps the King was black and both the Princes are mixed race?
(And yes, I'm possibly putting more thought into this than it warrants!)

On a separate note, rather bizarrely, somebody has said he's in the ensemble/1st cover Prince Charming on Twitter, re-tweeted by the official page etc, but isn't listed on the website.

Yes, they've added Caleb Roberts on the cast page on the website, but not Rodney Vubya.

Yes, they've added Caleb Roberts on the cast page on the website, but not Rodney Vubya. God knows they weren't announced last week with that rest of the cast 🤷

I would assume they're just using stage rules of colour blind casting, like how a black Eponine can have 2 white parents and we don't question it too much

I thought maybe they hadn't announced the casting of a King yet, as they've only just announced Prince Charming.

I think the role of the King is what Gary wilmot originated in the workshop!

The King is Mike Tyson. They just haven’t announced it yet. He’s the best King ALW has ever seen. 🙄

Some dynamic pricing going on already - with some of the side front stalls seats down to £19.50/£29.50 for midweek previews! A bargain as they are typically going for £99 on other dates.
