I wish they'd gone full power ballad — dry ice, wind machine, the works.

Well I think it’s a gorgeous song, gorgeously sung....to listen to. I know exactly what you mean about the performance, but we know nothing about the character or what has happened to her (other than liking a mac, docs and a smoky eye). It might make total sense in context.

To paraphrase Spamalot - This song 'goes on and on and on...' It needs to be cut. Boom, you're welcome ALW.
Positives. Carrie's make up looks beautiful and the cinematography - *chef's kiss*

As a big ALW fan the music is getting 6/10 from me at the moment.
The pants songs, no cast list, shiny silver set, amateur looking flats, revolving seats and closed circle/balcony is making this show FASCINATING

Nice tune let down by weak acting. Is she supposed to look peeved throughout? That’s Carrie “never been trained and seems proud of it” Hope Fletcher for ya!

It reminds me of Look with your Heart from love never dies. I will say that I was put off originally by the clunky lyrics, but as the song goes on it does grow on you and becomes an earworm. I think it’s great that they’re casting a non-stereotypical Cinderella and I know people on this board have it out for her, but I’ll wait to cast an opinion until I see the actual show. With Covid, ALW is trying to get attention with these music videos and I actually don’t think it’s working in his favor.

I'd like him to release the overture (although I think that's hoping for too much!).
I'd settle for a duet. Do musicals normally have quite so many solos?! If it is sung through, I want to hear interaction!

If it is sung through, I want to hear interaction! They’re not going to release a duet as I presume that would give away the whole ‘mystery’ of the plot and we would see that Cinderella doesn’t end up with her Prince Charming but ends up with some baby faced lad instead. Loving the tunes. Some definite ear worms in there but the lyrics! Year 6 poetry week springs to mind.

I know what you mean, but the solos so far could literally be a standalone pop song. That's not what I want from a musical! I suppose I Don't Know How to Love Him is the same though.
I do wonder whether Far Too Late will actually be a duet in the show.

I can’t think of anything more typical :/

Ah but Shirley, she wears Doc Martens. Obviously breaking the mould.

When Regent's Park did Into The Woods back in 2010 I seem to remember Helen Dallimore's Cinderella wearing something in the Doc Martins/Converse footwear line.

She also happens to be very curvy and not what one thinks of when they think of a princess.

Maybe those in charge think Carrie is simply the best person for the role in *shock horror* casting based on merit and talent.

Not all auditions are open, nor do they need to be - particularly if the actor who successfully lands the role has already workshopped the production.

Unfortunately she can never ‘win’ because there will always be people bitter that she has arrived to a conclusion that they wanted without putting in the same work through the same route. They see her riding on the coat tails of her brothers success despite her obvious talent and ability. They see her not playing the same game yet getting the roles based on the ability to sell tickets to a fanbase and having productions created around her. I think it will be massive with the Heathers/Six/Jamie crew but might not capture the adult market. The GL has a fair few seats so wouldn’t expect it to last longer than 9 months/a year but would love to be wrong.

I appreciate this happens and that is their prerogative of course. Your comment implies she got the role on merit and talent. She was handpicked to play both the workshop and the lead in the actual production. Other posters above have implied it’s a tired choice. Opening up workshops and productions for audition allows for a fair assessment of merit and talent and allows audiences to see people who have gone through a process which identifies their talent and merit. Not just a social media following. CHF has a lovely voice but let’s be real if she was put into a fair audition process alongside some of the triple threats working in the west end today (without the 500k followers she’s brings to the table) we might’ve seen a different Cinderella. Just my opinion. Everyone has one 🤷🏻♀️

I'd say any actor who successfully workshops a new production and then debuts the role is probably doing it on merit and talent. There will always be people who demand proportional representation in casting... (actually I think the West End has some very diverse casts across many productions). I don't care whether my lead is black, white, gay, straight, tall, short - if they've got the talent and the producers are happy to back them in the role, then I'm happy to pay my money to make my own mind up. I'd begrudge paying £90 to see a hotpotch cast just because the PC brigade want to tick boxes. And yes, I'm a white, straight male so I guess I'm just ignorant as a result of my heterosexual middle of the road not quite boomer privileged blandness.

When I go to a musical, I just want to hear really good singers, which surprisingly isn't always the case

Hotpotch is really offensive in the context your using it. Your two comments read that white actors have the edge on talent over BAME actors, maybe you don’t think it comes off like that. Cinderella highlights perfectly how BAME actors can’t even get in the door to audition. Wanting diversity doesn’t make you PC. Casting BAME actors isn’t ticking a box, Asian Christine’s, Black Phantoms and Carlotta’s have been fantastic. Black Dolly’s have been out of this world. This is not box ticking. You may be correct, your race and your sexuality has shaped your world view. I’ve read your post three times and the more I read it the more offensive it reads.

How the hell can the word hotchpotch be offensive except to somebody looking to pull the "I'm offended" lever? Go back and read your post. You are insinuating stuff that simply isn't there in my post. I don't mention BAME actors at all and specifically said somebody's colour, race, gender, sexuality is not important to me. The role they are playing and their ability to perform it is all that matters. Once you've read your own post again, go back and read mine again and fuel your misappropriated ire once more. You are reading what you want to read, believing what you want to believe, and twisting words to carve out the narrative that you want to see, as it suits your own personal agenda. It is not for me to decry the worthiness of your views or posts, but I'll be damned if I'll accept the slurs you've made. By all means, have a viewpoint. Respect others enough to have theirs, and come up with a more mature standpoint than pseudo mock-offence at an inoffensive message. Seriously - I'm saying best person for the job regardless of background. Your logic suggests you lack confidence in the best people for the job being from a background that is acceptable or comfortable to you. This is in itself a subliminal race agenda on your part, decrying the fact that a perfectly suitable and capable proven white actress should somehow not be allowed to fulfil the role they've workshopped for several years "just because". By all means have a view - just articulate it better.

Talent? I can hear that she has a pleasant voice. Merit? Merit can only be gauged when in direct contrast to others ability. So as this hasn’t been measured in this case I can’t see how she has obtained the role on merit? When I go to the theatre I’d rather see a lead who can pull off singing, acting and dancing. Not a ‘name’ who brings in the punters due to their social media following or the fact they’ve been on a TV show or a celeb of dubious origin. It’s purely a commercial move and assumes that an audience is unable to intelligently decide whether to see a show on its own without someone they recognise.. Personal low was seeing Nasty Nick Cotton in Chicago as Billy Flynn but that’s another story... ALW is banking an awful lot on a brand new show with a lead who can pull off one out of the three. Used to be a time when an ALW show was an event in itself. His name alone would sell a show. They’re clearly punting for the Six/&Juliet/Jamie/Heathers fan base Unfortunately these are the fans who day seat and like their repeat £15 seats not the people who can afford front row of the stalls at £105. Hope ALW hasn’t backed the wrong horse.

Even if he has, I'm sure he will recover. He's had plenty of flops. I'm indifferent to the music, not particularly fussed about CHF, gimmicks like moving seats don't appeal to me. But I'll go see it to have a view, and probably wish "School of Rock" was still running instead.
