I love this show so much.
I partially hope the new cast is not just the current covers. Love some of them, but some aren't as strong. Won't say who as it's just my personal preference, but I suspect they'd do well for some fresh faces.
This show will absolutely work on Broadway however:
- It won't run super long as the financials are just too difficult. - Audience ratings will be through the roof. - There is one member of the OG cast that will be a hard sell to NY critics because of vocals. I love the whole OG cast but just knowing that environment over there, I would not be surprised by some 3-4 star reviews from the more harsh reviewers.

Does anyone know whether the main cast perform on certain days of the week?

Quite shocking that the cast change is happening next weekend and it still hasn’t been announced.
A cash grab by producers Avalon to rake every last penny from people booking off the back of the Olivier success? Very, very cynical and insulting to the new cast as well.
I adore this show with all my heart but some of the goings on behind the scenes, through no fault of SpitLip or the talented group of performers, leaves a bad taste in the mouth, least of all the ridiculous pricing strategy.

What's going on behind the scenes?

I've booked to see the matinee on Sat 11th May - is that (supposedly) the last day for the original cast?

I think I’ve worked out the covers but I’m intrigued by the OG cast member with weaker vocals. I thought they were all pretty strong when I saw it. Do you mean the one who doesn’t actually have to sing that much in their role?

I've seen a lot of shows recently, and this one just stays in my mind. It was so completely absorbing and original, and it's one of the rare few I listen to the soundtrack often.
I would LOVE to see the original cast again before they go but it's an expensive show to see, and the seats remaining aren't great views in the tiny theatre.

I thought it would be Holly Sumpton. Maybe she’s going to Broadway as Jean?

Yes I just meant I thought Holly might be “promoted” to the role full-time since she seems to have had very positive feedback. Same with Christian as Hester. Although I’ve never personally seen either of them perform!

George Jennings now confirmed to be joining the cast, although it sounds like he'll be an understudy. I wonder if both Sean Carey and Christian Andrews have been 'promoted' to their roles full time? Tash Hodgson is certainly hinting about Sean on her Instagram story.

Yes, I think so too, to have some continuity in the roles.

Interesting that George Jennings definitely fits Charles on their initial cast change teaser, but their post confirming him today doesn't specify (if anything, suggests he's not)

I feel like the term ‘promoted’ is gross, lots of actors have no interest in playing roles and enjoy ensemble/cover tracks and make a career as such and often paid more to do so…

Didn't mean to be gross. It was simply a quick way to refer to a former understudy being given a new contract as a principal. I don't actually think of it as a promotion in the usual sense of the term, hence the inverted commas.

To be fair likewise a lot of people would indeed see that as a promotion. Especially in the UK as opposed to Broadway where ensemble pay is much better. One of the big problems with UK theatre is the pay is so low it is hard to make a career being an ensemble member or understudy. In New York, people can make a decent living as an ensemble or understudy.
I don’t think anyone needs to be offended. Whatever they want for their career is fine.

Yeah I was gonna say, ensemble to lead definitely is a promotion. Some people don’t want that and are happy to perform in the ensemble for their whole career, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But going from ensemble to lead, potentially having your name/face on promotional materials and the theatre marquee, plus the increase in pay means that fundamentally it is a promotion. In my line of non-theatrical work many people have happily worked in the same role for many years and have no interest in taking higher roles, as is their prerogative. But those higher roles still are promotions even if some people don’t want them.

My Mincemeat bingo card is nearly complete! Holly as Jean this matinee. Now all I need to see is Geri!
