Are the original leads still performing regularly? I had heard some of them call out often. Wondered if that was still the case. I heard the same. 2 out of the 3 times I’ve seen it at Fortune, I had Holly Sumpton fill in as Ewan and Christian Andrews as Hester Leggett and the rest. That’s what I thought. I really just want to see the OG cast but idk how likely that now is. |

I believe Natasha Hodgson was off for several weeks with an injury at one point, so that may be why you saw Holly Sumpton a lot. |

I’ve been 3 times and never actually seen all 5 original cast together at the same time.
First time Christian Andrews was on as Hester etc, second time Holly Sumpton was on as Jean etc, and the third time Christian was on as Hester etc again and Geri Allen was on as Bevan etc as well.
I actually preferred Christian’s performance to Jak’s on the occasions I saw them.

Has anyone had any issue buying tickets when they've won the lottery for this? I clicked on the link maybe 10 mins after it was sent out and was happy with the seat selection, but every time I tried to make a payment it would load a 'Payment Failed' page. Tried multiple payment methods (different cards, Paypal etc.) but to no avail, and by then all my preferred seats had been snapped up. Would appreciate if anyone could give me any pointers on this?

I was hoping to see this in April but all the dates I can attend every seat in the theatre is £89.50. Is that the policy? I can’t pay that much or ask the people I’m going with to pay that much. Argh I hate these ticket prices now  |

Argh I hate these ticket prices now It's cheaper (a bit) earlier in the week. Every ticket in the house is the same price and it gets gradually more expensive through the week. It's quite a unique strategy considering some of the seats in the Fortune are TERRIBLE. |

All the OG team were there last night as well! I ended up going anyway, was nice to cheer me up after a sad day.
There was a short show stop at the start of All The Ladies, was a bit odd, it was like the band missed their cue or a mic wasn’t on properly or something, Claire-Marie Hall started the first note but immediately stopped and said “ooh somethings wrong” to the audience, the base riff continued but no other music, the other 3 on stage kinda stayed in character as the girls from the typing pool “ooh I know” “can we have the music please” “y’know what this is, it’s anti feminist” and then the stage manager came on and asked them off stage and the curtain was down for 5 min.
Apart from that it was a brilliant night! And at least they were entertaining when things went wrong!
Glad I caught them all together finally on my 4th visit :-)

Twelfth visit last night. Full cast apart from Christian on for Jak.
Particularly enjoyed the ‘corpsing’ as Tash lingered on the “like a cow” line for an eternity!

Before I consider it, would anyone mind telling what what the style and tone of the show is? Any other musicals it bears stylistic similarities too?

Any other musicals it bears stylistic similarities too? thanks I was a big critic of the prices, and won their lottery for a cheaper seat. But... it's worth it at all prices, so I take it all back. You pay to watch the inventive cast sweat in an inspired way. Fringe/utilitarian style staging, skittish but never feeling like a mere skit. Some very moving moments that you wouldn't think the overall tone & style could hold. A mix of music styles with some v fast talking rap, ballads, Flanders & Swann, Beyonce, folk, choral. The best song, and song placement in recent musical theatre: 'Dear Bill' |

If you do go, try and get a decent seat. I had poor sightlines in the circle the first time. Stalls the second time.

It’s funny and has some highlights including that love letter song and the cross wired scene. And the cast gives they’re all, just like any cast of this type of show. If you, like me, enjoy shows like that I’d say yes see it. I personally wouldn’t pay the west end prices. Maybe wait for the uk tour |

Unlike La Navete Bete company there are no things going wrong 'accidentally on purpose', the show isn't about 'will the cast make it through ' it's 'will the characters '. The first wink at the audience is held til the end of the first song of Act 2.
I wouldn't say it's farcical exactly: that tends to be one situation that gradually tangles (boringly) then unwinds (entertainingly). This switches styles. But physical theatre, elements of clowning, elements of naturalistic character reflection.
It is priced beyond 'what the hell I'll just give it a go'.

The more I hear about it, the less it is appealing. You could certainly save yourself some money and just go and see the upcoming touring revival of The 39 Steps. In fact try that before paying top price for this. Okay, The 39 Steps isn't a musical and Max has certainly given a more nuanced view on what this show is. But seeing the show last year, I just couldn't help but feel I've seen plenty of touring and local shows like this before. Even if I hadn't, I'd still think myself glad to to have only paid for a lottery ticket. I still had fun watching this and there were some jokes here and there that set it apart. The cast efforts and execution is what makes this a four star show. The only thing that annoyed me was the introverted, buck-tooth, hunched nerd stereotype they use that feels very dated to me. |

I think the best advice would be to listen to some snippets of the music. I think that would give you the best feel for the style of the show.

It is well worth seeing. - Not really like any other show. Agree. This is an absolute must-see if you haven’t already. I saw it before it transferred and it really stuck in my memory as one of the best shows I saw in 2022. It’s very funny, but it has some serious moments that were beautifully played by the extremely talented cast. The only thing against the show is the bizarre pricing policy. |

Saw this tonight, absolutely incredible, can't believe 5 performers can do all that! I saw it last Tuesday night - oh my gosh what a show! I'd listened to bits of the cast recording, but hadn't been that impressed, but seeing it love... absolutely fantastic! As you so rightly say, how can 5 performers do all that? We had Christian on for Hester, who was the real stand out star of the night. His 'Dear Bill' was absolutely heartbreaking - so well performed. The act 2 finale is utterly bonkers and I still get the biggest smile on my face thinking about it. I'll definitely be back for another viewing! |
