I saw this last night with the lottery tickets. I always get cheap tickets but haven't sat in the top circle of a theatre for some time so forgot how steep it can be and also how lots of people lean. I wouldn't say it effected by enjoyment too much but I won't be going to an upper circle again in a rush.
As for the show, I enjoyed it enough but can't say I loved it as much as everyone else seems to. I went in knowing the basics of the story but nothing about the show itself. Musically I was expecting it to be old and pastiche like of the period so have to say I was a bit disappointed with the songs. I am not a big fan of modern musical theatre songs and some of it was a bit too Hamiltony for me. Dear Bill was the best song of the night however.
I also found it somewhat amusing but everyone around laughed much more than I did. And I feel like most of the laughter came from the expensive seats down below so take of that what you will. The cast are all very good and the staging works well. I think it could have been cut to run 100 minutes straight through if I'm honest.
Looking on this thread I really feel like I'm in a minority but I really wanted to love it, it just never clicked for me. Fun enough but not the best.

Saw this Friday - had Sean Carey for Cholmondeley and Christian Andrews as Leggett. It was just wonderful. I have to admit, the first act did feel like it went on a little bit too long - I was starting to long for the interval. But that might have been the shockingly uncomfortable seats in the Dress Circle - literally my entire body hurt by the end of the performance and I'm not tall in the slightest! (In fact, I am 1 whole inch shorter than the UK average for a male!)
Some genuinely wonderful songs and very clever in its staging. My other half said it's his new favourite musical.
Really want to go back, but I won't be paying the prices they're asking for - will hope for another lottery win!

Visiting in September and was told I must see this. From what I gather they don’t do day seats for this. So do you think the best/cheapest option would be to just buy the cheap seats or wait for standing/lottery?

So do you think the best/cheapest option would be to just buy the cheap seats or wait for standing/lottery? No day seats, no rush. They do a £25 lottery every 2 weeks but if you win the choice of seats is pretty poor. Monday is the cheapest day, all seats are the same price though. Standing is released randomly. If you want to make sure you see it, and at a cheap price, then just pre book for a Monday.

Now, back to the show. Purchased the OLC when we saw the show on 30 June. Now back in the States, I have started listening and, to me, it's an excellent recording that I am immensely enjoying. I'm catching so much more that I missed attending the show. And I enjoy many of the rhymes - including "a trojan horse. no a trojan corpse."

The lyrics are so dense that there's loads you can miss out on. A tribute to the cast who have to perform them, makes you appreciate them all the more.

A joyous show. I can't add much here that hasn't already been said. Aside from the excellent material the show really showcases the wonderful cast. Special mention to Christian Andrews on tonight as Hester etc - wonderful. Some terrific comedy moments and excellent comic staging. Act 1 and Act 2 finales the theatrical highlights. Don't miss it. 5 stars.
The Fortune theatre gets very hot and the seats are not comfy.
I would rush back, except as has been covered in the forum previously - it's pricey, so I probably won't.

Apologies for a double post HOWEVER also to share that I was amazed this is their first musical as a company. I am most excited for what they do next. Surely it will be brilliant too!

I went to see today’s matinee. Sitting in on of the boxes, I could barely understand any of the group numbers and some of dialogue. Overall it detracted from my enjoyment and has made it difficult to judge the show.

Next stop - Olivier Awards? Might get to see it again then, depending on the prices. I did love it, so would be happy to go back. Is it really the best reviewed show in West End history?!

I know Merrily We Roll Along which was at the Comedy Theatre (now Harold Pinter) used to claim to have had more 5 star reviews than any west end musical ever so maybe this has taken away its crown.

A few questions for those in the know….Where is the best place to sit for this show? And what row is best? And how close is “too close”? Is the stage high?
Thanks SO much

Middle stalls a few rows back. It is a small auditorium. I sat on the end of second row for the leg room and it was fine.

Front row dress circle feels like you're on the stage. The perfect view! Legroom is not good, if that's a priority I'd go middle of the stalls.

Thanks for the replies. Would you have row B or C are too close?

Thanks for the replies. Would you have row B or C are too close? We had E11/12 and they were perfect views. We are not tall, so legroom was fine.

I'm in London for the the last week of Nov, so was ecstatic when I heard about the extension. Went online this morning and only stall seats available were the very front or all the way in the back. Got B in the center, so hoping for the best.

Got really excited when I clicked on the link in the latest mailing and several seats were marked at ten pounds off the usual price (so a Monday show would be £29.50). Only to find when I clicked on the seat I wanted that it was a group rate for 6+ people.
