So I might actually get to see this after them cancelling Greenwich.

One of my rare forays into musical theatre took me along to see this in tour in March and I must admit it is rather good, helped of course by the excellent music...

[Thought there was a thread already for this but couldn't find it.] I'm seeing this at the Arts theatre but have received info about a "West End Preview" at the Hospital club on 3rd Feb. Have booked. Does anyone know if this will be similar to their appearance at the Phoenix Artists Club when they were at the Vaults? Just wondering.

Thought our Theatreboard Mods were doing a musical when I saw this.
Now there's an idea I'd pay good money to see........🎭🎤🎩🎶🍗

When I sing the local cats throw old boots at me to get me to stop. When I act trees criticise me for being too wooden.

Has anybody seen this at The Arts? Apparently it's going into the Ambassadors when Beginning closes, so must be doing quite well!

Nowt to do with the production but I hated the Arts when I went for the first time for Toxie.
Considering it’s prime location in the West End it had a distinctly low low rent feel about it. Also the seats in the stalls weren’t attached to the floor so you felt that if you leaned back hard enough you could end up on the floor. I mean, I’m not that fussy, the Hope Mill uses those hard conference room seats and I’ll put up with those happily despite them being less than comfy but I just thought the Arts was below par in a borderline disrespectful “put up with it” kinda way.
There.

I've seen it & it was packed. It was good but I prefered "Sunny Afternoon". Steve Marriott comes over as a pretty unlikeable person - very arrogant. Cast excellent.

Steve Marriott comes over as a pretty unlikeable person - very arrogant. Well, that's interesting. He features heavily in Tony Robinson's autobiography as they were in various productions together as children and teenagers. He bullied Tony mercilessly and wrote the song 'Itchycoo Park' after Tony's reaction at magic mushrooms (or something trippy) whilst in a....yes, you've guessed it...a park.

Finally saw this yesterday at the Ambassadors Theatre, after missing the previous London venues and tours.
It is an affectionate look back at the Small Faces, written by a fan of theirs and performed by a talented group of actor musicians.
Attendance wasn't great. The stalls looked to be about one third full (there were people sat upstairs but I didn't get an idea of numbers). Front row isn't sold, which is a good thing as the stage is high - and that area gets used occasionally by the actors. I was sat third row thanks to a TodayTix flash sale, so had an excellent view. Lots of people moved seats once the show started. The writer, a clear fan of the band and music, made an appeal to the audience after the show ended to come back again and spread the word.
The audience was appreciative. A few of the usual suspects who I expect anticipated a tribute act concert and found themselves translating to each other the bits of English they understood. They also tried to sing along at some of the less appropriate moments, which is always a challenge if you can't follow the scene and don't realise it's an emotional part.
The book itself is decent, but the show doesn't pack quite the punch of Sunny Afternoon. I'm not sure if that's because the Small Faces had a smoother ride, or if the writer chose the aspects to focus on very selectively. The music is basically the back catalogue of the Small Faces, which you'll enjoy if you know it. The big hits are used in the right places. There's also one of the traditional medleys at the end to send everyone home happy.
Some funny moments with recreations of famous TV shows and celebrities from the 1960s, including the likes of a Juke Box Jury panel and a Top of the Pops appearance by Tony Blackburn.
Running time is about 2 hours 40 minutes (7:30pm start, 10:10pm finish, short 15 minute interval).
If you like a good jukebox musical and you don't mind the music (bearing in mind the performance referenced that the Small Faces thought they weren't particularly good musicians) this is worth a visit, particularly in the pleasant surroundings of the Ambassadors Theatre.
