Then premium seats too. Plus presumably ticketmaster booking fees.
So similar pricing to Man of La Mancha I think.
Note booking is through ticketmaster, not the ENO site, confirming this is a commercial hire with no ENO involvement.

Guys dont book via ticketmaster book by the coliseum website...its a bit cheaper without fees etc...

Well you live and learn ... never realised there was a Coliseum site distinct from the ENO site londoncoliseum.org/whats-on/hairspray/?action=bookYou're right, cheaper and a wider range of prices, and you can select from the seating plan. For instance non-premium stalls are £97.50 as opposed to £105 via ticketmaster (which is linked from the Hairspray site). Difference is a £7.50 booking fee through ticketmaster, plus a £1.75 "handling fee". Direct from the Coliseum there's a £2.25 booking fee per ticket on top of the £97.50. |

Saw Michael Ball at The London Palladium on Tuesday night, his voice is fabulous and the place went wild when he did his Hairspray number. Am at Heathrow picking up Americans with almost no battery and had to book tickets. I predict a big hit with this.

I have never seen this, and I have never seen Michael Ball on stage, so colour me all sorts of excited about this.

It would be 100% against the spirit of the musical to have a Tracey in a fatsuit, given that half the point of the musical is to create great roles for the fat girl and the drag queen, particularly in schools productions where those kids would so often be stuck in the back of the chorus. Although that said, it's my understanding that Traceys often lose weight over the course of a run because of how ridiculously energetic the show is, so some Traceys do end up with a little extra padding in their costumes.

I saw Charlotte Riby go on for Becky in Waitress last week. and speaking of Becky, Keale Settle understudied and played Tracey in America, and she's doing OK for herself! 😂 It's a good point though, I haven't seen much attention on many of the girls who played that role following. |

I don't think Keala ever understudied the role of Tracy. She was cast as Tracy in the 2nd national tour. |

Marissa Jaret Winokur was 30 when she played Tracy and then around 36 when she reprised the role before it closed on Broadway.

Hairspray might be the first musical I was ever exposed to, yet i’ve never actually seen a live production. This feels like the best chance i’ll get to see it done well. Definitely going to try and book!

Michael Ball saw Hairspray on Broadway, he knew then that Edna was a role he was destined to play.
Before Hairspray opened at the Shaftesbury there was a lot of talk on BroadwayWorld that Michael Ball was going to be a car crash in this, Michael Ball was in fact Ferrari cruising in the 3rd lane at 90mph, I have never seen someone who had so much fun on stage, it was rumoured that Michael was getting a princely sum to play Edna, that was not the only reason he played Edna. He was literally having a ‘Ball’ 8 Times a week. I saw him late in the run, so therefore sadly missed the late Mel Smith, but I did go on to see Michael 5 times in that role, including his final performance, where I have great memories of after the show, where a crowd built up outside the Shaftesbury to see Michael and the man serenading the crowd from his changing room window, smiling like a Cheshire Cat - he was loving every minute of it.
All 5 times I saw Michael it was an absolute pleasure.
If your experiences have only been seeing the last 2 inferior tours, book for this now, as you will have a delirious time, you just can’t stop the beat.
The £89 side tickets are alright seats in the Colesium.

I've just looked on the website and much as I adore Michael Ball, for two of us non-Southerners £150 each for a ticket plus all the other costs is way outside our budget as we like to stay a few days and cram as many shows in as we can. Will have a look at the £89 seats now (are these stalls?) with a bit more confidence. I've seen MB twice as Edna and two others (won't say who) and was really disappointed. Not taking anything away from the rest of the cast of course, but he is absolutely the cherry on top of the cake. |
