Love this show, The Vaults, not so much.
And directed by Julie Atherton too. Nice.

This might just be worth the trip down, I've been in love with the cast recording for many years but it's just one of those musicals I didn't think I'd ever get to see so this is exciting for me. Hope it has a solid cast. This show comes in so many different forms however I'll have to be reminded which one of the "Pop Opera" is.

I enjoyed the LAMDA production of this earlier in the year. The Pop Opera version, which I presume this is. Will be good to see a professional version.

Caught this yesterday evening after knowing nothing about it, mainly because I had a free evening and saw it was on at 6pm on a Sunday and the couple of snippets of songs I caught on Apple Music before booking sounded great. The actual show itself was really enjoyable - it's still in previews and far from polished, but everyone on the stage is working hard. Some of the music is absolutely stunning and there were some really beautiful numbers. Special mention to Stacy Francis who brought the house down during God Don't Make No Trash. I was also NOT expecting the punch to the gut at the end after the story had finished - I won't spoil it (I'm not sure if they do the same every time this is produced), but it was beautifully done and I was in bits - definitely good timing to have this show in the run up to London Pride.
The down side - the venue is DIRE. Without question the most uncomfortable seat I've ever sat in to watch a show - one of those folding plastic seats but it somehow made me feel like I was going to fall forwards and backwards throughout the whole thing. And then to top it off due to the layout of the stage (very wide and thin, with a catwalk out in the middle) we had to spend the entire show with our heads turned 90 degrees to see anything, and some of it was actually directly behind us. I was desperate to stand up and untwist myself by the interval. I really don't know whey they don't just turn the chairs 90 degrees or diagonal, or get rid of the catwalk - the current setup doesn't work at all. I had a tier 2 ticket which ended up being any seat in the front 2 rows - I'm not sure which tier the back rows are but the back rows would definitely be the best for this show.

I doubt it, solely for the fact that there was an updated version Off-Broadway in 2012 (Bare: The Musical as opposed to Bare: A Pop Opera) and pretty much everyone hated it, at least compared to the original.

Yup, this is the Pop Opera version and they don’t deviate from that in terms of the score. There are some small word changes here and there and I have to say of most of the ones I can remember, I’m not sure they were necessary. There was only really one that stuck out as being a modernisation: {Spoiler - click to view} Instead of “F*** me Matt, it’s Diana Ross!”, Peter says “F*** me Matt, it’s Beyoncé!” I have to agree with the previous poster, the seating is so uncomfortable. I was in the first tier, which are the middle two rows and I didn’t have trouble seeing anything as I was sat by the catwalk part of the T but after a day spent sat on a fountain in Trafalgar Square, sitting on a plastic folding chair for 2 and a half hours was the last thing I needed! I really do think they should angle the seats, because anyone on the outer ends is going to have look down an entire row when action is happening on the catwalk.

I moved to the seats at the far end during the interval and although you are further from the action, you can see everything without having to turn your head. I agree that the main seats should be reconfigured to give a better experience. As for the show it was lovely to see a much fuller production, previous experiences have been minimalistic, though be prepared for lots of scene shifting.

Is it the dreaded unreserved seating in this place?! When you enter you are given a colour based on the tier of ticket that you bought. For example I bought tier 2 tickets so we were given blue. Then when entering we were told we could sit anywhere on the front 2 rows on either side of the catwalk. Definitely a good idea to get there early, sitting as close to the catwalk and as far back as possible would probably be the best position if sitting in the middle section, or the set of rows thats completely separate house left facing inwards would probably be even better (as a previous poster mentioned) I'm not sure which tiers relate to each row - on TodayTix it says the premium seats and tier 1 are closest to the stage, but this isn't the case as I was tier 2 and was told I could sit in the front 2 rows.

I would take care in the seat you chose in Zone 2 on house stage left. Note there is a fair bit of action that happens up by the orchestra and if you are in the back row facing the stage you end up watching a fair bit of action through a tree. Also, if you try to nudge your seat back at all in the back row, beware you will likely end up getting hit by a cast member. Hope they have improve the sound mix for house left as it was slightly disorienting. You probably have better sound house right than house left but that could have changed since I saw it.

I assume no one is talking about the show because the only "reviews" so far have been from the sort of outlets that are never uncritical and pass a synopsis off as a review?
bare is the sort of show you may have enjoyed if you were teen / early 20s when it emerged pre 2005 but it just doesn't stand up today.

The seating is vile, the venue is vile and the production is overlong. It is a shame because the source material it is great; some lovely songs, the appalling fact it is still relevant but it just felt very amateur. From the awkward set to the awkward set changes. Also, I thought to cast two leads who are struggling vocally this early on was a mistake. One of the teenagers looked at least 35. If this was the end of year student production it would be cute, instead, it is just a bit messy and disappointing.

I ask because I love the music but find the show itself a bit ridiculous. If there were some stand out performances it might be worth a trip but otherwise not.

I had no expectations for this and even then was left disappointed. Awful staging, uncomfortable seating and claustrophobic atmosphere, and as Snciole said it's very amateurish. There were a couple of good performers in there who could certainly carry a tune, but even they couldn't save this. It didn't help there were some sound issues so at times you could barely hear them. If I could have physically got out of my seat in the interval I think I'd have left. This show sadly wasn't for me.
