Seeing this next week in Manc with some trepidation as it looks a bit cheapo on the website, although the last one of these concert type thingies I saw was rather enjoyable. And as I live literally across the road from the Palace it's got to be better than Emmerdale and a Pot Noodle... Surely?
I gather this has done the rounds several times over the past few years, anyone seen it before? The cast for this tour are Rebecca Vere, David Fawcett, Andy Reiss and Katie Leeming.

All decent singers who have had main roles in Les Mis.I always enjoy their concerts but think they could stretch their repertoire a bit.But plenty of Phantom, Mamma Mia,mainstream stuff.Don't remember any Sondheim.

I've seen this three times, last time about 6 years ago. It was one of the regular events I took my elderly parent to as it toured round local theatres that had good access and were easy to get to.
The two guys are the same (I think both appeared in Les Mis many moons ago), the female singer changed each tour. Of this type of musical "songs from the shows plus" type of thing it was probably the best of the ones I saw: a bit cheesy (especially after seeing it more that once and hearing quite a lot of the same jokes!) but the singing and choice of music were good.
At the time my brother and I were arranging a lot of outings as my parents had difficulty getting out on their own (he paid, I went along) and this was quite a relief after some of the stuff I saw ("Songs That One the War" anybody?).
My particular favourite moment was in something M&D wanted to see called "We'll Meet Again" - Marilyn Hill-Smith heading the cast as a sort of Vera Lynn singer. The matinee was chock full of people from care homes and elderlies being taken out by younger relatives. After a prolonged period of setting in with scraping of zimmer frames and walking sticks and making everybody comfortable the curtain rose. First music was the National Anthem, making everybody get to their feet - very slowly. Caused me and my mum to get a fit of the giggles which lasted well into the first song.

(and none of my own teeth) Hence the diet of pot noodle... I do envy you Up North... All we get down here is sh*t-Beef or sh*t-Chicken flavour. We never get that Monoglusodo Sodomite or whatever it is down here. And you get deep fried Mars bars... Anyway, back on topic, I have never seen it but know it appeals to audiences who don't like to travel (too much). Have a lovely evening, Burly. |

O. M. Geeeeeee!  Well, I was certainly taken Beyond The Barricade, and straight into the local Working Men's Club. I would have have stayed for the second half but there's only so much "Korg" a man can take. Thats just me though, stalls were 3/4 full, audience average age 65 and WELL UP FOR IT. And out out of respect to the people up on that stage making a living, I shall say no more. Now, where's that Pot Noodle? |

Yes, my Mum and Dad loved this, but then they were in their late 70's so fitted in nicely.
The great plus point for me was that I came out feeling sooooooo young.......
