Loved it first time I saw it. Second time was a little disappointing for some reason. Btw is that Luke Baker aka the bully in "...About Jamie" in the pic stagebyte posted a few months ago? Different Luke. I recognise his name from the X Factor a few years ago.

Sam Lavery was also X-Factor, saw her in concert within last year, good to see her getting a prominent stage role.

First time I saw this (Manchester) I was blown away by the music, the imagery etc and raved about it to everyone, second time I thought it was terrible, the music was way too loud and you couldn't hear any of the singers which is quite important given the story is progressed via the lyrics, even the staging was cut back.

Different Luke. I recognise his name from the X Factor a few years ago. For fact fans, he was the runner up to Sam Bailey.

I saw Tom Milner on The Voice a couple of years ago and I’m not going to lie, he was pretty awful on that, but apparently he was very good in Waterbabies at the Leicester Curve so I’m intrigued to see him in this.
Luke and Sam were never my favourites in their years on X Factor but it will be good to see them in this.

Saw this at the 5pm showing in Brum tonight.Hands hurting from clapping like a demented seal to support the cast and help cover the fact that the audience numbers were rather limited shall we say.We were sat in row C of the Dress on 2 for 1 tickets and there were only a few people behind us. The show is raucous and delivered with gusto from start to finish.Great energy. The band were on fire(not literally).A simple storyline but the songs are iconic.Feels like a rock opera.Lots of merch.I plumped for the rather nice double-sided fridge magnet.Nice touch with the ushers dressed in post-punk gear.Winderful programme notes. For example,Sam Lavery trained hard for the Great North Run we are told and Davina McCall was one of the other runners...oh and Mo Farrah won the race. Must admit I do admire Selladoor. They seem to know their limits in a good way and we have seen nearly everything they have produced.Amelie and Little Miss Sunshine next!

We were sat in row C of the Dress on 2 for 1 tickets and there were only a few people behind us. I would have gone today if they'd been willing to do half price tickets (for people attending on their own), but they were only doing 2 for 1. I am seeing this in Wimbledon in a few weeks though, where they were more realistic with their price offers. This was good when I saw it at the Arts and on the tour last time around, even though it's not really to my taste in music. I expect the 8:30pm show would have been busier. It's a strange choice to run in Birmingham at this time of year in Birmingham aiming a lot of offers at students, when they've gone home for the Easter holidays.

Saw the 4pm Show in Brum yesterday, front row and had a blast! This is my fourth time seeing this brilliant piece, the cast always give it their all and its got so much life and energy about it, A real kick up the arse that musical theatre often needs. Tom threw what i think was supposed to be a joint to me, which i caught, but on closer inspection turned out to be a twiglet lol! Like someone else posted i also loved the dress code of the ushers here, really set the tone.
Two very small down points to yesterday, I loved it so much more at the Arts theatre played straight through without an interval. I know the last tour had one too but it completely kills all the atmosphere stone dead, plus the structure of the piece was never intended as a two act play in the first place so with an interval wedged in it seems somewhat fractured.
Also this show fits small venues so much better, the energy of the cast should feed into the crowd and vice versa, like an intimate rock gig more than a musical, and all this is lost in a huge barn like the Alexandra. At the Arts theatre, the cast were virtually on top of the audience, and it seemed so much more visceral and kinetic. Plus it doesn't help that a show like this cant hope to sell out these large theatres, so the empty sections(there were quite a few) do not help the atmosphere one bit,and the audience was completely dead yesterday afternoon until the end. A much smaller, gig size crowd always works better with this show.
Other than that I do love this show, had no interest in the band or the album before i saw it, now im a fan of both. Normally don't like this sort of music at all but this show has even led to me seeing the real Green Day a couple of years ago.

Great review,Sir.I bought the CD after the show and have been playing it ever since.Agree that the show would probs work better in a smaller venue packed full of people.A concert venue like Rock City in Nottingham would have been great.A friend of mine at work knows the guy who plays the wounded soldier character and he says that the cast are having a fab time touring the show.Great camaraderie apparently.

Why thank you alltheworld, makes a change to be complimented on a post I make on here instead of criticised! Funnily enough I was thinking Rock City would be a perfect venue myself. Send my compliments to the Soldier lol, he had exactly the right body type to spend the entire show either in his y fronts or topless right in front of my face, no complaints from me!! And of course he’s a very talented actor and musician lol.😂😂 xx

Yes,sir,I know exactly what you mean about the negative criticism comment.I sometimes re-type a post 3 or 4 times and read it through wondering if anyone will mis-construe,mis-represent or misunderstood my words and even then I usually get it wrong. Also my caustic sense of humour doesn’t always translate well in writing. I will pass on your kind words via my friend at work.Josh(the soldier)is indeed a finely-sculptured Adonis of a man 🤪 lol

I like your style,Serial Shusher.Wish I had your self-belief/nerve/confidence.People do seem to take offence very easily and sometimes things do feel rather toxic. By the way,it took me 4 goes to get this right in case it offended you or anyone else...only joking...

Saw this in Blackpool a while ago and was very pleasantly surprised. Thought this was totally not my cup of tea and only booked due to a £10 premium ticket deal. Really energetic show and an excellent cast. Had some passing familiarity with the American Idiot album but none of Green Day's other work. Cast album has been on repeat since, though I haven't gone as far as to look into their back catalogue!
However the atmosphere in Blackpool was awful with 90% of the theatre empty. Felt terrible for the cast facing that, needed fewer days at the venue or finding a smaller venue.
Enjoyed it so much I went again in Manchester, much busier and more responsive audience and the show was the better for it. Agreed with the above posters that smaller venues would have worked much better for this tour. Definitely work checking out even if the music isn't what you normally plump for, especially since there'll probably be more half-empty venues with heavy discounts...

I'm a massive Green Day fan but had somehow managed to avoid this until today! I thought the cast were great and were clearly having a great time.
I wish it was a bit less reliant on the songs to tell the story and perhaps had a bit more talking.
Also the audience were sooooo bad. Way too much singing along and chatting the whole way through. Already posted this in the bad behaviour thread but the women behind me kept talking even after I asked them to stop and we ended up moving and were then in front of more people chatting and singing but at least they were quieter about it and not basically shouting.

Any offers cropping up for this one in Wimbledon? I just looked for Saturday night and both shows have the Upper closed and are maybe a third sold. So I imagine we will see comps or offers going out. I'd be really surprised.

I'd be really surprised. Thanks! Yeah that's what I thought. Working with a lower budget because I'm bringing a non-stagey friend (it's the call of Green Day!), so I'd hate to buy a cheap seat and then end up stuck behind swathes of empty seats. TOTAL vibe killer. Especially for something as high octane as AI. Anyway I'll keep an eye out...

Reading doesn't seem to be selling very well at all - 3/4 empty for tonight! They're still selling at full price though - anyone know of any offers for these? I'd like to go but they're a tad too expensive when I include travel.

I loved this show when I seen it a while back. The songs are fantastic and the cast were great. It's a shame it doesn't sell better, but it's overlooked by a lot of musical theatre fans and maybe the older audience as they don't know much about it and it's generally not their cup of tea, but I think a lot of people would enjoy it if they gave it a go. It's a simple, but good story. Smaller venues would be better for it, but it's still great to see it in any venue.

Saw this in Wimbledon last night, having previously seen this at the Arts a few years ago and on tour.
It is a strange venue. For some reason, there were very few seats sold in the first few rows, then a big block of people behind. I was sat in the front row, which tends to be sold as restricted view, but usually has a perfect view. I suspect some of it is due to the most of the front section being premium seating.
No real changes from the previous tours. It comes across as a much longer show with the interval and they seemed to have stretched out some of the segments between songs. The cast works hard and you will know if you enjoy the style of music or not. The (generally older) audience seemed reasonably receptive of it, although the venue was far from full.
Not so many names in the current tour, but the group of former X Factor contestants handled their roles fine.
I heard a couple of younger people talking as I was leaving, who hadn't really figured out what the show was about or why the trio of leads wanted to leave home. It's all about the aftermath of 9/11, but I guess this comes across a bit of a historical piece if you weren't there. When I saw the Mountview version of this last year, they dropped all the 9/11 references and perhaps this needs a bit of reinvention now to appeal to a younger audience?
