I feel like on this forum every word is analysed.
New to me.

You’ll soon get used to not being allowed an opinion. Or being allowed it, but it being wrong. It used to get me down but I’m many times over it now. x

I think if I had realised it was a totally different script, with new songs I wouldn't have booked. I really did just want the joy and fun of the film. Maybe you should have…. Watched the film instead?

I think people are just pointing out that the musical came first, and then the film, so the songs...aren't new, they were there in the first place?

Grease: Live mixed the two together.
I can understand that it might be a bit disconcerting if you were expecting one thing and got something different.

Grease has the same issue as Cabaret that it's more known for the film than the original stage musical but the two are very different beasts.

I saw the 2017 tour which I believe was basically the same as the Dominion production from the 90s that ran for a while, which was a lot more faithful to the film, and I definitely enjoyed it a lot more than last year’s tour of this production to be honest. I’m going to give this production another go because I like a lot of the cast that they’ve assembled for London. I think ultimately it doesn’t quite work because they’ve tried to go for the more gritty feel and slightly darker tone of the original stage show but still kept Grease is the Word, You’re The One That I Want, Sandy and Hopelessly Devoted To You from the film, which end up feeling a bit out of place (as someone on here said earlier). I can absolutely see why they’ve added them in though because many of the songs from the original musical just aren’t that good in my opinion (the Alma Mater/Alma Mater Parody, Alone at a Drive-In Movie, All Choked Up) and fans would leave very disappointed if they didn’t hear their favourite tunes from the film.

I agree the songs from the film are much better than the one they replaced but the original stage musical has great songs. Those Magic Changes is one of my favourites but only features briefly in the movie.

Alone At A Drive-In Movie is fantastic when it's a sax solo. The lyrics are... not good.

Does anyone know if Peter Andre has been back this week? He’s been taking scheduled leave this week so far, should in theory be back tomorrow (Wednesday)

To clarify, I posted a few times talking about the show - and did say that I personally didn't like the new-to-me songs. I didn't claim I had been 'lied to' or that it was their fault for not doing the movie.
I don't read reviews before seeing a show so I didn't know it was a take on the original show rather than the movie.
I see no need for rude replies when I am talking about a musical!

I found it pretty baffling that they sell a rather pricey "souvenir brochure" at £8 that doesn't contain a single article on the show and its development from the earliest 1971 version in Chicago via Broadway and the movie to the version that's now considered pretty standard - and why they veered from that.
Peter Andre was out yesterday. Can only join in the chorus that said Kenickie was much stronger than the fairly bland Danny. Did nobody notice in casting that Jocasta Almgill looks about 10 years older than everyone else? Stockard Channing may have got away with it in the movie, but here the difference between a very mature Rizzo and a very babyfaced Kenickie was almost painful and had something of the Cougar about it.

I thought that too - Kenickie felt more of the lead. Rizzo looks a lot older.

Peter Andre on Loose Women saying how he wishes people would sing and get up and dance during the show. Peter Andre is the epitome of what is wrong with theatre today...

They even say at the start to please just watch the show because at the end you can film, dance and sing during the mega mix.

I can see the arguments with FOH and proper audience members now. "But Peter Andre said it would be okay".
If that's what they wanted, they should've called it "Grease: Dance Party".
