8-week run at the Dominion this Christmas. 14 November 2022 to 7 January 2023. According to WhatsOnStage, it will be a new production.

New production usually means cheap, as you can see with Dirty Dancing and Grease at the Dominion.
Quelle surprise

Pricing seems to be a lot more reasonable than its last outing (that's not to say it's cheap, but last time was extortionate).

Any more news on old Ben Foster’s where there’s blame there’s a claim situation?

It's been referred to Elf and Safety.

The Dominion really become the dumping ground for shows.

Did Ben ever get his big compo payout for his elf and safety injury?

I love Simon Lipkin but after seeing Elf on TV which I think was filmed at the Lowry it's put me right off seeing it again.

Tom Chambers (Top Hat, White Christmas, Holby City, Waterloo Road) is returning to the Dominion Theatre stage from 14 November as Walter Hobbs, the rediscovered father of Buddy, in Elf the Musical. Also in the cast are Kim Ismay (Wicked, Mamma Mia!) as Debs, Nicholas Pound (Cats, Les Miserables, Evita) as Santa, and Dermot Canavan (Hairspray, Fiddler on the Roof) as Store Manager. They join the previously announced Simon Lipkin and Georgina Castle as Buddy and Jovie.

The Dominion really become the dumping ground for shows. Prince of Egypt was EPIC. But yes Grease Elf then the horror of Dirty Dancing again… I wonder what next summer will bring? On another note Elf starts next week. How to get cheaper tickets? Hm

The prices for ELF are insane. They must be selling well through, to keep them that high.

I saw this tonight. IT WAS TERRIBLE.
The script and book were DREADFUL. How did this make it past the development workshops? I’m shocked! So NOT funny.
I’m sorry to say but I think Simon was miscast in this too.
We all left at the interval. It looked cheap, was woke, the black camp gay man in the show offensive (again) and the story weak.
1/5 from me.

It looked cheap, was woke, the black camp gay man in the show offensive (again) and the story weak. 1/5 from me. Woke because there was a black gay man ? Actually YES. And why should gay people be LAUGHED AT? I think it’s horrific actually. In my life my large LGBTQ+ spectrum is served with wonderful friends from China, the Philippines, Colombia, Poland, Brazil and includes young twinky guys, bears, bikers, hunks, trans, bi, gender fluid and lesbians of all types and ages - so if you look at the West End it clearly never represents any of these and it’s beyond tedious. It’s simply always an effeminate white or black man aged 30. Period. That’s not diversity. I can think of over 15 recent West End shows with the same casting. Mrs Doubtfire has the same. (Yes I’m gay by the way). The Prom musical aside - why not show a Asian lesbian couple or a Turkish hairy hunk as a gay man? They don’t. Is it internalised homophobia from creatives? It’s certainly isn’t progressive. That aside, apart from a fun bell ringing sequence - Simon is sadly bad in this role with the worst looking wig (and colour) I’ve ever seen on stage. We thought the show was really not funny at all and looked very cheap. And those ticket prices. Wow.

Completely agree on gay representation in musical theatre, its awful. Always the same stereotype and always done for laughs. Made even worse because theatre likes to pat itself on the back thinking its so left wing/progressive/inclusive/'woke' (delete as appropriate)
Actually the media in general at the moment seems to think there is only one or two ways to be gay

I've never seen Elf live but I did see a recording of it once. I think it was from the Lowry with Ben Forster. I found it a bit boring to be honest. I love Simon Lipkin but don't think I'll bother this time.

Is this the same physical production that was at the Dominion years ago?

Looks pricey, but a decent set of lower price ranges - though few (if any) available still on the few days I clicked on. So seems to be selling very well. It was indeed televised a couple of years ago. Plus I've just found that recording on DailyMotion...

Has anyone tried to get day seats for this? Available at the theatre at noon, according to their website.

Has anyone tried to get day seats for this? Available at the theatre at noon, according to their website. I did, great stalls seat for £29.50. I guess they’ll be few and far between this week but possibly the first week of January they’ll be readily available.

I hope I'll be able to grab one for the matinee of January 2, although that still seems to be a very busy date!
