I said that btw with absolutely nothing against her and actually find the level of negativity about her over the top and far too strong. I just thought she was to young for the role, i had no idea that, as Micheal stated, Miss Honey is meant to be a young teacher.

None of the principals are leaving at this cast change, I believe! There will be a new Miss Honey as an agent accidentally announced it about a month ago before retracting their tweet, Collette Coleman I believe. Collette is joining the ensemble, possibly understudy Honey? |

Saw this the other day with a clutch of understudies. Usually not a problem - often great energy and adrenaline on stage when this happens.
The fantastic children carried the show. That is all.

I'm not naming names on a public forum - and it wasn't only understudies I thought were lacking in energy. I will say that Will Hawksworth as the escapologist sang beautifully. But the children really were outstanding. I'd not seen the show before and thought the songs were on the dull side and the whole thing quite boring. Some of the lines that were absolute gifts were thrown away by the actors. (The two people I went with were in complete agreement on this.) The energy only lifted when the kids were on. Whoever trained them deserves a medal! |

I saw it a few weeks ago and it was a shadow of the tight, slick feast that I saw a few months after opening. The cast were not a patch on the original and the whole thing just felt rather flat. Bertie Carvel was outstanding and the chap I saw was average. The little girl was annoying, which I didn't find before. Dennis Pennis was really good in it too. And the chap who played the Doctor, Tim something, he was terrific too. And Lauren Ward was perfect as Miss Honey. It all just felt a bit second rate in comparison,
It's just the natural "slide". Happens to all long-runners to varying degrees. Just needs a freshen up. Full cast rehearsals with the Director rather than the Res would be a huge help, it does the trick usually.

It seems from Twitter that they also had to stop the matinee at the interval. I imagine there were interesting scenes backstage..

My family had tickets for this evening. Show cancelled.
I advised try Charlie chocolate factory.
They got tickets.
They have just rung me----Charlie started and then has just been stopped due to technical difficulties.
Will it re start?
Who knows.

The show has gone ahead tonight as planned but with the twist that all 4 Matildas are ill and Lara Mcdonnell, who finished up as Matilda in March, is back as Matilda this evening! Hopefully they can get everything sorted out soon and the girls are back to full health.

Saw today's Matinee as my first show of 2017. It's been almost three years since I've last seen the show, and while I'm not exactly the biggest fan of the show, I hugely enjoyed it. We had Abbie Vena as Matilda, but she must've been put on with short notice as the cast board said Zaris-Angel Hator when I entered the theatre. It's really impressive how such a small and young child can carry the whole show and memorise all the lyrics.
I had forked out £75 for a good Stalls seat, and it's so much better than seeing the show from the gods as last time. I think my next revisit won't take three years...
