You will be safe to go on Saturdays - when he will be off doing Strictly It does surprise me has got this gig as he will be off for 2 of the busiest shows of the week on Saturdays doing Strictly. His panto commitment usually work around his Saturday unavailability but this is the West End! I am amazed the producers could not find a box office name to do this 8 shows a week?

I wonder who will do it once he leaves ? There isn't much time left from him leaving until it's set to close, unless it extends. What's Jodie Prenger up to at the end of the year ?

Saw this on Monday evening with the family, delayed start with someone coming onstage at around 19:40 to say that Miranda had been taken ill backstage so there would be a further delay whilst the understudy got ready. Anne Smith did a great job, as did the girl playing Annie.
My nieces and nephew (ages 6-12) loved it, my mum huffed that Miranda wasn't on, and my dad said 'well, it was ok but I wouldn't see it again' - he was asleep for most of it

Has anyone had any luck in swapping tickets for another date, if Miranda is off? Asking for a friend...

HA. Exactly the same from my dad years back when we saw both Starlight Express and Cats.

According to a friend who works at the theatre it's unclear if/when Miranda will be back.

So people are complaining and the whole "respect the understudies" debate is raging again. Even Denise Welch is getting involved...
When people are paying such huge prices and shows are marketed around a "name" are they not allowed to be a little upset if they're not on? Obviously I don't mean the tweeting the actor saying they've spoilt their life kind, but isn't being a little disappointed natural? It doesn't mean you don't respect understudies. The hysterical "you must not be upset" reactors is quite bizarre.
I often go to shows as I am a fan of a particular person. That may be the "star" but it could just as easily be someone in the ensemble that I am a fan of. If they're not on I will be a bit upset. I live a long way from London so I don't get many chances to see shows I will of course still love the show and will more than likely really like the under study too etc etc but some of the reactions are getting a little silly.

It's OK to be upset, but it falls into the same category as planning a day out and ending up in the rain. It's disappointing, but being disappointed doesn't mean you should start acting as though life had no right to be mean to you.

Is Miranda over the title in Annie? On Broadway if the producers put a star over the title (Bettle Midler in Hello Dolly; Glenn Close in Sunset Blvd) they are in a sense marketing the star over the show and you can exchange or get your money back.
When Lucie Arnaz was out of Witches of Eastwick, they let me exchange (though the Drury Lane Box Office has always been the nicest and most accommodating box office I have ever seen on either side of the pond).
Somethng to ponder....
In this case, Ann Smith is probably better than Miranda, though people want to see stars....

It's disappointing, but being disappointed doesn't mean you should start acting as though life had no right to be mean to you. Of course, they are the extremes, but if someone dares to say to their friend in the theatre "it's a shame so and so is not on" it almost evokes a storm of surging ranting bloggers with flaming torches these days. It's a little ridiculous.
