I saw this as an early-birthday treat from a friend last night.
It's a technical masterpiece and stunning to look at. Steph and Samantha were also fantastic. The new songs don't really add anything which is a shame, and I'd forgotten how little Elsa actually has to do, especially in the first act. It's really Anna's show and Steph knocks it out of the park, she really nails the characterisation. Samantha's Let It Go was incredible though.
I'm also now watching a Broadway bootleg and I'm so glad it's been cast more age-appropriately than in the States. Patti Murin and Caissie Levy are both brilliant but they both read far too old for teenagers!

That struck me too, Elsa kind of shows up for a few big numbers but Anna seems to have far more stage time and you really follow her story rather than Elsa's.

That struck me too, Elsa kind of shows up for a few big numbers but Anna seems to have far more stage time and you really follow her story rather than Elsa's. Well the films the same, it is Anna’s story and Elsa is a supporting role, she just ended up with the marquee song. Well my return visit to this show was a real test of my patients. Think of the worst kind of panto audience and turn it up to 11. Never ending chatter (kids and adults) it was just a wall of noise around me. One group of women who split into two and constantly messaged each other on their phone, people with crying children who they refused to leave the auditorium with when asked and the usual rattle of sweets and crisp packets. Also, and this is more then likely a ‘my problem’ then anything else, two highly disabled people who would shriek loudly during songs, (I know they can’t help it) and I know how lucky I am to have an autistic brother who understands how live theatre works, but really I never understand why it’s considered acceptable, it’s just as distracting to cast and audience as an international disruption. Also sat two rows behind me a group of toxic Rainbow Warriors complaining at full volume during half time how the show fails to correctly portray Elsa as the OUT character she truly is… |

Has anyone been to see a Thursday matinee of the show? I'd imagine it's quieter as most kids will be in school during term time, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole during school holidays though 😆

I saw Mary Poppins a few years back and the parents behind me had paid over £300 for tickets and treats and 1 kid fell asleep before the curtain went up and the other one was totally unimpressed.

First time I went was the day after press night and we had absolutely no issues. We were front stalls off to the side and had a mum with young daughters next to us but they were perfectly behaved throughout. Second time, last Wednesday, I was in the back of the stalls and surrounded by annoying kids who didn’t know how to behave. The family across the aisle from me had a toddler who screamed/cried out at one point and another who CRAWLED OUT OF HIS SEAT AND OUT INTO THE AISLE. Absolutely idiotic parents taking children so young. I think it really just depends on luck with who you’re sat near to be honest

I saw it on a Saturday night, a few children near me, all as good as gold, as were the parents. I know it's luck of the draw but I wouldn't assume every audience for this show will be a nightmare.

I went to the 1st preview all pretty eell behaved apart from one child in front of .e who wanted to go on the stage to be with Elsa and threw a hissy fit when she couldn't. During the interval FOH moved them to the back and we had 4 adults in front.
2nd time which was a midweek show still lots of children but no tiny ones. When Anna turned to ice a little girl shouted out "oh no" and the whole section of the audience who heard it burst out laughing. Poor Anna mist have wondered what was going on.
As its a family musical I was prepped to expect some disturbance.
I'd actually prefer kids just enjoying themselves to drunk adults being idiots.

I walked past the theatre about an hour before tonight's performance & there were enough kids outside shrieking loudly to make me very glad that I wasn't & won't be going in!

There a very strong case for shows like this to have both the occasional relaxed performance but also the occasional adults only performance. I would imagine that there are lots of us who would book for that!

It's pretty amusing the amount of people in here complaining about children being at a show based on a film aimed squarely at children... Those very rich children who travel alone into the West End? It isn't children's theatre like Sooty and Friends on Tour, or the Polka Theatre or something. It's aimed at families. As such, the idea is the whole family should be able to enjoy it. The problem is that there is little differentiation in people's minds between a West End theatre experience, compared to that of "The Lion King" or "Finding Nemo" at Disneyworld. |

I think they've recently made/are making some changes to it, though |

I went to Disneyland Paris once when it first opened. I hated it. And that was before it became the sophisticated scam that it’s become now. From what I can tell you pay an extortionate amount of money to stay in a very average hotel, then top whack for park tickets, then you’re expected to stand in queues for hours on end to experience a three minute ride OR pay yet again to jump the queue. Then you’ll pay silly money for overpriced junk food, and be encouraged to purchase overpriced tat at every opportunity. Hard pass!

You know I like to think I’m very open and I’m totally on board with Disney decision to cast regardless of race if the role can support it, but…
At the Thursday matinee young Anna was back, young Elsa was white. Then grown up Anna was white and grown up Elsa was black. Add in two Asian actors as the parents and a little part of my OCD brain did start demanding a bit narrative of discipline lol.
That’s got to confuse some kids and does brake the whole Disney Magic BS they try and present at these things.
