Show as fabulous and amazing as ever. Sheena brilliant, Clare and Neal WOW and Tom fab. CJ was great, she looked a bit too similar to the girl who plays Annie, but otherwise great. Christopher is still crap but CJ was the saving grace. All four levels open and the Stalls were pretty much full. Had the loveliest time at stage door. Wasn't gonna go, but saw it was quiet so thought why not. Obviously on a Monday, with all the golden girls out and about, stage door wasn't gonna be busy. There were maybe 5 of us, all who had seen the show multiple times but then there was an older man, one who appeared a stage door lurker who greeted the whole cast. Tom had to run off and Sheena didn't come out. But Neal and Clare were SO lovely! Neal was out quite fast, and Clare was the last to leave bar Sheena. Each had pretty much a five minute conversation with everyone, wanting to know names and giving hugs and handshakes yo everyone. It was so lovely! I mentioned I voted for both at WOS Awards and they were both genuinely thankful and said "well at least I have one vote!". I also asked about staying on the next year. It seemed clear that the production has pretty much said if you wanna stay, its yours. Both had the same response, where they are currently working it out and weighing up. Stuart was saying he is exhausted. He has lost two stone since the show began, and has to constantly drink protein shakes to stay in shape. He also has a baby to run about after at home so he barely gets any rest. And Clare said too she was exhausted. But that's mot to take away from.the experience, but seemed to genuinely love it and spoke only.of great things. They both complemented one another on how supportive each is, it was really lovely. It was one of the loveliest stage door experiences actually, they were both so lovely and happy to chat! Danielohnson14 Why are you so against Chris Howell? Clearly the way you attack him on here you have an axe to grind or some form of a personal vendetta against him? Chris plays the role of Bert Barry excellent. He is so funny and a good actor and he plays the character extremely well and not at all "crap" as you describe. The wedding scene you do not like is in fact hilarious. He, Jasna and Emma have such a connection and it works so well. In regards to the "Stage door lurker" you mention, if it is the person I think it is, (although he is no where near 60 or wears glasses) he is neither a lurker or an autograph hunter but someone who has seen the show over 30 times now and has built up a good rapport with all the cast and likes to show his appreciation and in return the cast appreciate his support and devotion to the show and enjoy chatting to him. When you have seen the show that often you may then be more of an authority to comment! Read more: theatreboard.co.uk/thread/1322/42nd-street-theatre-royal-drury?page=123#ixzz4zGYi7AoI...OK.

Just for the record: The wedding scene is my least favourite bit of the show. And personally I find Chris Howell's interpretation of Bert terribly over the top.

I'm actually with Dan on this - I don't think Chris suits the part, and it jars when he is playing against Jasna who is brilliant as Maggie.
And please don't say we have to have seen the show x amount of times to have an opinion or be able to comment on things - you're on a forum, this is what we do.

Re @mj's comment...everyone is entitled to their opinion - you really enjoyed Chris performance, but Dan didn't. And that's fine. And in the same way that you say he's hilarious in that scene (and I'm sure you have perfectly justifiable reasons), that doesn't make any other opinion wrong. That said, danieljohnson14 does like to tell us over and over again how bad Chris is...we did get the message the first time

Oh love, the repetitiveness is simply because when he is the only bad thing in the show, its difficult to not point it out and be dissapointed when his name appears on the cast board. But again, discussion board. Opinions. If you don't like it, this isn't the place for you. Bye felicia.

I loved that watching 42nd Street 30 times was viewed as a positive thing rather than an alarming one.

Exactly! On the topic of the cast, who do we think could replace Chris Howell (and the others), come cast change? I'd love to see Clare and Stuart stay of the leads, and I could see that happening. And I can see Jasna staying as she loves a long run, she stayed the whole of Charlie and this is a bigger and better role. I mean, @ryan suggested Jane McDonald to replace Sheena. On board. TOTALLY on board!

Jane would be fantastic! When is this cast due to change? End of March is cast change, so I'd keep the 17th, 24th and 31st on a mental note for March as the date of cast change for those who want to go. But don't book yet haha, I'd feel bad if I'm wrong!

Ha! That's perfect, was hoping it wasn't too soon so I have time to fit more visits in if the unspeakable happens and Clare and Stuart announce they're going to leave.

I remember Jane McDonald saying there was something big musical Theatre possibly on the cards for next year - sometime early this year on the telly. I think she’d be good!

Haha, from what I heard a few months back, it is an actual year they are doing at 42nd Street. Its not like Wicked where they just pick and choose how long they stay for, so some end up staying for 10 months, some end up staying for 14 months. I'd say you at least have another 3/4 months left with these guys.

I'm guessing Sheena was bigger than Jane when she was really at the prime of her career (?). I think what works well with Sheena is that when her casting was announced, I remember a few people on here saying 'who is she?' (for what was supposed as a celebrity casting). In that way, I think what's worked wonderfully with Sheena is that they have secured a 'diva', but one who when you see her on stage isn't a case of watching Sheena, but watching Dorothy. I feel that, because Jane is much more well known in general to a British audience, it would be hard not to see Jane onstage as anyone other than herself - and is she a good enough of an actress to take us away from watching Jane? Obviously happy to be proven wrong, but just a few thoughts.

See I don't know if Jane would be a good choice, I just wanna see it! In the same way, when she leaves panto, I'd love to see Elaine Paige do it!

For some reason I think Shoshanna Bean would be amazing. It was the first name that came to mind.
