Has anyone seen it in the last week who knows what they’re talking about? I imagine the dancing has slipped a lot by now?

Has anyone seen it in the last week who knows what they’re talking about? I imagine the dancing has slipped a lot by now? You could try and read back over the last week's comments if you are really interested.. E.g. Re Tonyloco's post on the 10th. "Just to report that I paid my eighth visit to 42nd Street tonight in A24. Philip Bertioli was on as Billy but otherwise it was the full first cast, and Jae Alexander was conducting (and smiling beautifully). The thing I concentrated on tonight was how complex all the main dance routines are with a huge variety of tap steps, movement and groupings as well as knock-out costume changes within some of the big numbers. We also have ballet dancing used for comic effect in 'The Shadow Waltz' and some slightly more serious toe-work in the mirror section of 'Keep Young and Beautiful' within the 'Dames' sequence. The almost throw-away tapping in 'Go into your dance' is delightful (Clare does a lovely jetée that you have to be paying attention to catch, the waiters who tap on and off to shift the table and chairs are fun, and of course we have all the other big production dance numbers jam packed with amazing tapping including the opening rehearsal number, 'We're in the money', 'Lullaby of Broadway', 'With plenty of money and you', the staircase part of the finale and then the encore back on the flat stage with Clare, no longer a youngster but now a real star, leading the company and filling the whole stage by herself with things like her circuit of whirlwind spins like a prima ballerina in a Petipa ballet but continuing to tap as well! In fact, I had a really crazy fantasy that the whole show was really Petipa meets Busby Berkeley meets George Balanchine! The dancers never seem to tire and the energy level is astonishing. And I was entirely satisfied with the ending! I know I am not alone in my response to this wonderful show but I just want to share my continuing happiness every time I see it. And all still for £15! Performers in musical theatre do actually take pride in their job, because if they they don't, there are are thousands who will.
And knowing Parsley as we do, he's hardly likely to let things slip, is he?

Has anyone seen it in the last week who knows what they’re talking about? I imagine the dancing has slipped a lot by now? Absolutely. They aren't even trying anymore. Who am I kidding? They're still terrific! Tapping away like they could power the National Grid.

Having seen it three times with a few months gap inbetween, not a toe or tap shoe out of place! Still as amazing as ever! This show is a prime example of why there should be an Ensemble award at the Oliviers!

Has anyone seen it in the last week who knows what they’re talking about? I imagine the dancing has slipped a lot by now? I saw it yesterday and it is still excellent (having seen it twice just before and after official opening)

Other than Chris Howell but he was crap in the first place. Enjoy! Which one was he? Thanks! X According to West End Covers on twitter he's not on this week so you won't have seen him but Greg Bernstein, so you are lucky to have escaped seeing him. I've seen Greg play Bert once and I thought he was great.

When is this cast recording out? I simply cannot wait 15 December according to Amazon. I placed my order with Father Christmas last week. Saw the show for the third time last night and still on a high.

Poor Christopher Howell. Lost cause. 😅 I saw he was nominated for this role in some theatre awards. Although there are do many theatre awards these days everyone looks likely to be nominated eventually!

Although there are do many theatre awards these days everyone looks likely to be nominated eventually! He got nominated for the same kind of awards the male understudy from Murder Ballad got nominated for... even though he never went on. If Christopher got an Olivier nom for this performance (which he won't... because hes crap), it would be an absolute mockery.

I read the nominations and did wonder if he'd even seen any of the performances.

15 December according to Amazon. I placed my order with Father Christmas last week. Father Christmas said I hadn't been good enough this year to warrant a £15 present so I have ordered it on my credit card, which means I will get it five weeks before Christmas anyway. Can't wait!

Silly me! I'm so excited about getting my CD of 42nd Street that I can't read properly. I thought Amazon said they were delivering it next week but it is of course not coming until after 15 December so that's just a few days before Christmas.

Am catching the show for a 4th time tonight after getting a great Rush seat (F9 aisle seat in Stalls!). It really is the show that keeps on giving, I can't wait to see it again tonight!

You know what I wanna know, and maybe someone who saw the Original or a different production of this show. Is it just that this production is so damn good, or is it just one of those shows that, you can't f*** it up, it is just that good!

My memory is not as it was but I saw the original production in the 80s and I think this one is bigger and better. I don't remember it having such a large ensemble back then.

I was at the matinee on Saturday, third visit to this incredible show. If anyone I know is heading to London and wanting a show recommendation this is the one I tell them is the must see.
A couple of covers were on;
Greg Bernstein was on as the “comedic role”, Bert Barry and he did a grand job. He is usually in the ensemble (he is the robber in the 42nd Street scene). Martin McCarthy was also on as Andy Lee and he was really good. An incredible dancer and a very beautiful man!
A few swings were also on but as the cast board just lists everyone, whether they are on or not so I am not sure who although I missed Philip Bertioli. He just has that extra bit of star quality that draws you to him.
As for the actual show… it is absolutely flawless. Not one out of place step all show that I could see. That moment at the start when the curtain raises and you see the feet must be one of the most jaw dropping in theatre, it is just astonishing.
Clare Halse and Stuart Neal are just sublime. The talent between those two is indescribable and jaw dropping. They make it look easy, it seems so effortless. The fact that they come out for bows before others really is a scandal. They are the stars of the show here, those two and that incredible ensemble. If there is no best ensemble award at the many million theatre awards, then one needs to be created immediately as this lot are setting the standards.

Is it just that this production is so damn good, or is it just one of those shows that, you can't f*** it up, it is just that good! I saw the 80's one and was blown away at the time and left on the same high I've left from this one. However, I DO think this one has the edge - time helps I suppose, bigger budgets etc. I also did an amateur version in the 90's and as much as it was "amateur", it really was fantastic too - I remember one reviewer's headline being "Streets Ahead Of The Pro's". We were lucky, we had a great cast at that time, many of whom went on to do professional theatre work etc etc. So, yes this is a phenomenal production (I'm still up for a champagne do in the front row at the final performance by the way!), but if done well it really is a great show anyway.
