Ok, so this was f*cking incredible from the moment it started. Curtain went up and the audience went crazy. This has to be the best show opener ever.
Clare Halse is sensational. If she doesn't get an Olivier I'll get furious. I was shocked when she didn't get the final bow. Wtf?
I loved Tom Lister and Sheena Easton.
Stuart Neal can tap his way to my bed.
Amazing amazing amazing cast.
And the set, wow! I just have no words.
I started crying. Tears of joy. I felt so happy and priviledged for seeing this. I didn't want it to end, I was like, keep going, tap all night and I'll stay.
I know I'll see it again. Several times.

Earwigging a conversation between two ushers during the interval - cast change is Feb/March, and they're currently making a cast recording in the studio! Exciting times.

To update on the above, being released in January, apparently I swear this show just gets better every time I see it. I reckon about 80% full tonight, on three levels. The tap is just exquisite. How on earth so many of them keep exactly in time to the millisecond blows my mind. I don't think there's a single weak link in the cast. Oh wait, I forgot about Chris Howell. He's just...so. Not. Funny. There's nothing wrong with not being funny (I'm an absolute comedian, naturally) but for goodness sake if you're not funny, don't try to be. I swear, he p*sses me off about as much as Kevin Bacon in them EE adverts. I.e. a lot. Anyway, it's a cracking show, if you haven't seen it yet...what is wrong with you. Just go. Go meet those dancing feet, down the avenue I'm taking you to. Like now. I had row B in the stalls for £25 via TodayTix. Absolute bargain. Happy days. 4.9 stars (I've deducted 0.1 for Chris Howell)

I liked Chris Howell in it. Sorry ‘bout it!
What are the chances of decently priced stalls or royal circle tickets in TodayTix for a Saturday night? Zilch?

Zilch? that's alright, we're allowed to like different things I think if you get in bang on 10am, probably quite likely. If you're a bit later in the day, depends on how busy they are. They do add more seats to TodayTix during the day so you will get a deal, it just may be mid to rear stalls instead of front.

Thanks daniel. I’m down this weekend with a couple of friends. We’re at Follies on Friday and I’m sorted for Saturday too but they are annoyingly tardy at getting organised to the point where I’m pissed off with sorting everything out for them and withdrawing my labour, leaving the bitches to it. I’ve got them to download the TodayTix app, the rest is up to them.

I got row B stalls for 25 squid from Today Tix for a Saturday evening show a fee weeks ago. Went on at 10am and got 2 tkts first attempt so it's worth a go.

Could someone explain why in the musical from 1930's they are singing about "sexy ladies from the 80s" and "little nifties from the 50s"?

michalnowicki, I think it's referring to the 1880s and the 1850s. But I'm not totally sure - maybe you should ask @caiaphas as he was there.

As the references are in the song about 42nd St, I took it to be other addresses in NY?
PS always fun to reread the first few posts on this thread.

I have no personal knowledge, but Wikipedia, the modern fount of all knowledge, suggest that 42nd Street was once the centre of New York's red light district. Could that be it? It is, after all, the oldest profession.

You’re a cheeky little minx, that’s what first attracted me to you. That and the way you sashayed in your crinoline. Are you still working the Avenue by the way?

Could someone explain why in the musical from 1930's they are singing about "sexy ladies from the 80s" and "little nifties from the 50s"? I believe they're referring to street numbers in Manhattan. Apparently the 50s were the younger midtown crowd and the 80s were the wealthier uptown society people.

That makes a lot of sense! I thought that it might be 1850s' and 1880s', but had problem imagining the fashion then to be considered "sexy" (given what is being worn in 42nd Street in 1930s'). 50s' and 80s' as the street numbers make perfect sense. Thank you, oh fountains of knowledge.

After failing with the Young Frankenstein lottery twice today, I've decided to go with a rush ticket and give this another go after being totally indifferent towards it when I went the first time. On paper, I should love it, so hopefully today will prove that.

Well after a second viewing I won’t say I’m head over heels made for this show, but, wow, I enjoyed it so much more this time. My main gripe has to be the cast and characters, everything is too two dimensional and just floats by - it went by very quickly but I was never ‘wowed’ by the story. Equally, Sheena Easton didn’t really impress. All her songs merged into one in my opinion - nothing memorable, and neither was her acting. I came out thinking about the Peggy-Julian ‘grand for you to come scene’ and about emotion in the acting. I wish someone would do that with Sheena - she’s good, but just a bit weak. I never though Dorothy was a feisty diva. Those criticism, everything else I loved. The orchestra sounded great, I couldn’t appreciate the overture because the entire audience was talking - if the orchestra was onstage and not in the pit, would people still talk? I doubt it. Choreography great, as was Clare Halse. Norman Bowman was on for Julian and was so much better than Tom, probably one of the reasons why I enjoyed this so much more. He made the character more stern, and his stage presence and singing stronger, and much more convincing accent. Really hope he gets the part at cast change, although that may be wishful thinking. Philip Bertioli was on for Pat, but I wish it was Billy. Pat just seems such a waste of a character, and with all the fantastic choreography Billy gets the character seems like so much fun - probably the best male character to play in that sense. The final 20 minutes completely won me over, stair case onwards. Even though I was in row K of the royal circle, all energy carried through. I would definitely go again now, not for a while as there are other things to see/revisit first, but hopefully I’ll see this cast again before cast change.

My friends got matinee rush tickets from TodayTix thanks to the earlier advice so thanks for that. A21 and 22 for £40 with my TT code. Needless to say they were blown away and said if they’d paid full price they would have felt was worth it.
