I wouldn't start panic buying tickets just yet, Victoria Palace had planning permission for years before Billy finally shut. They'll wait until it 42nd Street comes to a natural conclusion and then action the plans.

Didn't they have to wait for the Victoria Station redevelopment to be further along before they could close the theatre, I know Cameron Mackintosh said Autumn 2016 for redevelopment when he bought the theatre but I assume they brought it forward when Billy closed in April 2016

saw 42nd street last weekend and i really loved it the only thing that bothered me was the applause -why the hell does the actress playing Peggy not get the last applause the is the star of the show? instead the old diva gehts it , who barely is on stage

It's the tradition for this show. Dorothy Brock is always an established actress and usually the "name" performer. Peggy is always a relatively unknown ingénue - exactly as the show has them. Name actress trumps ingénue for the bows.

There had been comments like this up-thread before I saw it, but I remember feeling that it just felt completely in keeping with the piece for the more experienced actress to have the final bow. Peggy gets her encore bit after all.

From what I saw of it, the theatre looked to be in wonderful condition in the front of house, so much so I remarked on it.
I'm guessing it's for the stage and backstage areas.
It seemed in fine shape, especially compared to the Savoy, which seems very dated now, but not in a good way. Things are looking quite shabby over there.

I'd also heard that there's going to be significant re-modelling to the auditorium, adjusting sight lines etc. Will be interesting to see what comes of it!

They re-decorated the foyers, it's true showoff. Backstage, yes, it's pretty worrying. There's also been strong rumours about "re-modelling" the auditorium. It only dates from the 1950s, and there is a strong feeling that sightlines can be improved. Personally, I agree they could re-set the stalls with a better rake and more legroom in the rear section. Maybe lose the boxes in the rear dress circle in favour of extra rows, likewise in the upper circle and re-set seats there and in the balcony to create more legroom, too, and maybe improve sightlines at the ends of rows as well. They need more in the front stalls too. I was in D9 and it was uncomfortable. I was gagging for a couple of extra inches

So it turns out that through a twist of fate in my favour, I'm going to see this again next Thursday night. Lucky lad! So yeah. A friend's daughter is arriving in London for a week on Sunday and I raved so much about this show that her mother has bought a ticket for her daughter and me to go. Yay!

So, since I've spent a fortune getting daan saaf for Matt's final performance in Kinky Boots, what better way to pass the afternoon by returning to see this again. I know it's only a couple of weeks since I've been, but hey ho!

I finally got to see this this week (thanks to TodayTix and Rush Tickets). I might be a lone voice, but I was a bit underwhelmed. Don't get me wrong, it was a perfectly pleasant afternoon in the theatre, Peggy danced absolutely beautifully, Sheena Easton was far better than I'd been led to believe she was, I always like seeing Stuart Neal, but it didn't live up to the hype for me.
As with everything in the arts I guess it mainly comes down to personal taste, but I just didn't feel emotionally involved. The score had a couple of good numbers but for me the songs were mostly serviceable rather than ones I'd want to hear again, and the plot was a bit thin...
The spectacle was amazing, I'm not sure I've seen such a big cast outside ENO/ROH in the West End, and the dancing was lovely, but it made me feel a bit like a detached spectator than anything else.
I think the main thing is that the acting was a bit "pantomime" for me. Everything was very over-done and *big* and just didn't ring true. Maybe this is a choice of the director to ensure it plays well to the whole house, given Drury Lane's size (although I was at the back of the Dress so not that close myself), but it made it hard to get emotionally connected.
Anyway, I am very glad indeed that this show is being enjoyed by so many of you and that it seems to be selling OK, as it's always nice to see a big musical surviving and to tick another off my bucket list. And awesome cheap ticket thanks to TodayTix.
Oh, and the most biazarre moment of the whole thing was queuing to get in. The entire queue was identical to the end of Act 1 from The Producers: - from 2.10. Coach trip, I guess, but a very odd sight as they were all dressed alike and moved forward on zimmerframes in unison!

Has the Peggy understudy ever been on? Has anyone seen her? I had a vague idea I'd seen something on Twitter a while back about her going on & have just dug through & found the tweet.

Will be in London for a few days in early August. Does anyone know if Sheena Easton will still be with 42nd Street at that time? Are there certain performances where she doesn't appear? Thanks for any thoughts on this.
