I actually didn't think the book was that bad. True, it mostly just serves to carry the show between the big numbers, but it was quite funny and I don't think it was badly written.

Also, if it helps, Google is a newfangled "search engine" whereby you can look up things just by typing in what you want to find. It's marvellous!

Not initials in this case as people have explained but I do sympathise with you generally and in spite of the sarcastic response you received often Google wouldn't help on here where people abbreviate song titles and the like as they can't be bothered to write the full title.

Is the 2001 recording still available?. I know at one point it was out of print. In any case it's a great recording - the only difference between it and the Drury Lane production is Boulevard of Broken Dreams which has been added here.

I had a quick look and there are a few sellers on Amazon who have put up second hand copies. I imagine it's way too early to judge if they'll bother with a recording for this production, but since there's only one song been added I may as well get the 2001 version.

Was there last night, can't really add anything to what people have already said, it's an incredible spectacle and the dance sequences are breathtaking. I felt exhausted just watching it. I now have a strange desire to learn how to tap dance.
As others have said, WHYYY doesn't Claire Halse get the final bow? She's incredible.
Thank you for the info about the bargainous first two rows: I was in A17 which was fantastic. Bizarrely, the three seats to my right were empty.
I will confess I didn't enjoy this as much as The Life, which I saw last week, mainly because of the characterisation, story and score (though I did enjoy the score here). But for sheer impressive spectacle and 'wow' factor, 42nd Street was outstanding.
PS anyone else think that the 'Hotel des Dames' (or whatever it was called) reminded them of a Premier Inn?

The bow order in this production is what it has always been for 42nd Street. But, as someone else here has pointed out, Peggy does essentially get the last bow because of the big post-bows production number where she ends up front and centre. Ms Halse isn't really getting short changed.

First Negative Post About This Show.........be prepared. It's not THAT negative but........ A real treat to see a well populated West End stage in these days of stripped back musicals which I confess to becoming increasingly weary of but in my (humble) opinion the dancers simply lack the attack required (the tapping here is all in the toes) and lacked energy. This is pretty much a carbon copy of the 2001 Broadway revival which in turn added a few tweaks to Gower Champion's original and brilliant staging. I have no desire to take anything away from most of the principals who do a super job but I felt the minor roles (Annie, Lorraine, Phyllis, Abner) woefully undercast as was the Billy Lawlor who has no top tenor notes. My major problem was with Ms Easton who simply has no star quality (this from a previous admirer too) which was surprising; there is no grandeur or hauteur to her performance. Nice to hear her belt "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" but I am presuming this number was added so she could do so (it was not in the original or the revival and feels somewhat misplaced) for the rest feels vocally uncomfortable for her. However, there is no doubt that the audience loved it and it does have a feelgood factor. The Chichester revival, although small, seemed to have the heart missing from this production. I am ready for the oncoming attacks.

I would also be interested as a yardstick to know which show does have "energy"
And I found the CFT revival pretty poor
Underpowered underpopulated and choreography all meddled with
