There was a piece on the BBC London news on BBC 1 at about 6.50 pm tonight about Lulu being in 42nd Street which they introduced by saying that 42nd Street is a show set in America in the 1940s. It does make one wonder how accurate the rest of their reporting is!

Oooh, I'm here tonight. Lulu is on! When she appears I'll shout "Weeeeeeee-eeeeeee-eeeeeee-llllllllllllll". I don't imagine anyone says that to her so I think she'll like it. I'm so proud! You're not really a returnee to a shows much, but this has lured you back three times now!

I've just seen stageyqueen's comment on the Ruthless thread, how has Tracie Bennett not been mentioned as a replacement for Dorothy?! She would be fabulous, just imagine!!

Well. To all those Lulu naysayers I say poo to you sirs. Poo poo in fact. Sheena may sing the songs better but Lulu acts it better. She's tres funny. And she's got a knockout pair of legs too. I wanted Jane McDonald to take over from La Easton natch but as for Lulu. J'approve!
The show is still strong. Clare Halse has improved I think, she's like a young Debbie Reynolds and that's no bad thing.
Oh and Ashley Gay is a peach. He's also got smashing hair. I think I'm in love.

Judging by your new picture with your updated Spring look Ryan I don't know why you weren't considered for Dorothy.

I know right? I mean, after all I am a friend of hers. Well that makes two of us, although I suspect there may be one or two more on this site!

At the interval - Lulu isn’t anywhere near as bad as I feared. I like her acting more than Sheena, and the songs are in an appropriate key for her voice. Her singing has got stronger as the show has gone on. I can understand why people don’t like her in the role as it’s very different to Sheena. Really enjoying Ashley Day as Billy too, really good voice and dancing (though his solo dancing in We’re in the Money could be stronger).

Just you wait until she gets to 'About a Quarter to Nine'. She rocks out like she's still in 'To Sir, With Love'! She's fab! Lulu for Elphaba!

I know right? I mean, after all I am a friend of hers. Are you talking about Patti or Dorothy?? Oh I would love to be Patti's friend. We could sing songs from 'Anything Goes', slag off The Lord and then go and berate the great unwashed for using their mobile phones. Oh the jolly japes.

Have just been updating my list and have realised that the day seat visit to 42nd Street a couple of weeks ago was my 100th London theatre trip - I realise that some of you will do that in a year but it takes a bit more doing from Yorkshire! Really pleased that this milestone was reached on such a great show.

Lulu for Elphaba is honestly the funniest thing I’ve heard in months.

Apparently Ashley tripped over something in the bows tonight and went flying!

A friend who went to the Gala last night reported to me the following. “I have to say, I thought it was really flat and devoid of all atmosphere. Claire tripped in Go into your dance, Lulu missed lines and queues and Ashley Day fell over in the curtain call. All in all, not a great performance, no connection between stage and audience. The two Michael’s were in the box - but Lulu is just dire, no other way of putting it! Not a great performance for the Gala!

Wow! Harsh words but I remember lots of people said negative things about Sheena at the beginning.
There's plenty to love with this cast.

Another not so great review from Trip Advisor: Wonderful production, precision dancing and glorious costumes. However shame about Lulu. Voice too harsh for songs and her stance was poor. She appeared to have difficulty walking in her platform shoes. Found her performance very disappointing www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g186338-d12274544-r570877201-42nd_Street-London_England.html#It seems people still love the show, just not Lulu! Oh well she's only in it for a limited run.

Who do we think will replace Lulu?! As much as I'd love for a trained actress to take the role I think it's likely it will be stunt casted!
Ngl I think Jane McDonald wouldn't be that bad in the role; at least she can still sing!!
