Current claim "THE BAND is now the fastest selling musical theatre tour of all time" from a promo email just received.. hmmm I got that too...pretty sure Lion King probably takes that crown. Or something like Joseph starring Philip Schofield back in the day.

Don't tell BurlyBeaR, but I just happened to be in Manchester yesterday. As I just happened to be in that part of town, I just happened to to walk around the back of the Opera House. Anyone would think it was a Take That stadium tour! There were loads of crew, unloading loads of boxes, from loads of trucks.
If it is indeed the fastest selling musical tour since the beginning of time, that may be because every lamp post in Manchester seems to be carrying an advert for The Band. Or perhaps every lamp post has an advert because it isn't selling that well after all!
I don't think I'm giving anything away, but looking at the cast photos outside the theatre, there are five teenage girls, but only four adult women. Either one of them does a Robbie, or something dramatic happens to cue one of Take That's more sentimental songs!

There seems to be a lot of "just happened", are you sure you're not a Gary Barlow fanboy?!

Damn, I've been found out!!
I just happened to hang around all day, hoping Gary would drop by to inspect the four tumble driers.

Well judging by the atrocious singing of the five teenage girls at their Pride performance at the weekend, maybe the fifth one leaves out of sheer embarrassment.

I'll reserve judgement until I go but even if it's less than wonderful you'll never hear it said as the Take That fangirl motto is "thou must not criticise".
In fact, if you even say anything remotely neutral they round on you like a pack of wolves, snarling and protecting their "young".

The whole casting process for this has put me off the show. The guys who were on the tv show were only told of what their roles would actually be on the night before the final. I'm not sure who was more duped, the public who were asked to vote for them or the boys up for the roles.

One of my pals from uni is one of the five young girls in the cast. She's an incredible performer but even my ears were bleeding during their performance. God knows what they've been doing throughout rehearsals.

Well I succumbed and bought the cheapest ticket possible just so I can go and judge for myself. Still loads of seats available, especially up the gallery where hardly any have sold but when they're charging £40+ for them it's not surprising.

Elaine Paige is playing Back for Good right now. Not booked tickets for this yet and going on the synopsis she just read (going for the Mamma Mia crowd or what!) and the sound of the track she just played,I'm now beginning to think I've dodged a bullet!

Sounded bloody awful, wasn't even the Five To Five guys singing and so much reverb it sounded like it was recorded down a well! Not for me, I don't think, as much as I'm a fan of Take That's music. I'll just stick on an album.

So much for when Let it Shine was on they said the boys would be doing all the singing eh. The girls sound out of tune on the recording so this does not bode well! I smell another Viva Forever disaster!

I smell another Viva Forever disaster! I'd agree had they gone straight to West End. I feel sure on tour this will do well. Oh and based on the deluge of recent advertising, if the lads aren't actually semi clothed throughout I'll be demanding a refund. Seriously though, looking fwd to seeing what this is like; going on the last night in Manchesterford.

I'm not going to make a complete judgement based on one song but that recording on Elaine Paige did not do anything to me. At all. I totally agree about the reverb too... could do with being toned down a notch or ten!

The story is the story of being a fan and the friendships along the way. I've met so many lovely people from bring a fan of this group, I'd never have met them in "real life" otherwise. Our paths would never have met. The women in the musical appear to lose touch then reunite years later and start reminiscing again. Well, this is the story of my life when Take That reformed! It's not some random story, like your Mamma Mia's. This is the fans story I'm hoping so anyway as it's all in the execution but I do like the idea of it. Would much rather see a story along these lines than something that has nothing to do with the context of the songs, group etc. We shall see...

I totally agree about the reverb too... could do with being toned down a notch or ten! Could be the broadcast processing making it sound worse than it is. BBC broadcast compressors are known for changing the sound of material, sometimes not for the better.

I listen to Elaine Paige most Sundays while cooking our Sunday lunch and some of the recordings she plays are awful, so I will reserve my judgement for when I actually see it.
