^I would add that the second rule is to keep the customer coming back for more - if you know what's sensible...
Well thanks to your website theatremonkey, and info from other members of this board, I went to four shows in London and paid under £20 a ticket for all of them.

On my lunchtime stroll, there were four women, perhaps still teenagers, but definitely early 20s at most, walking away from the stage door at the Lyceum. They were carrying a beautifully painted, proper canvas frame, with the words 'The Fivers'.
Take That? Who are they?

Fans of Five To Five call themselves 'Fivesters'. I've always struggled with reading upside-down, which is why I was never any good at cheating in school tests! Credit where it's due, those four young women have got far more patience than I have. When I set off for home five and a half hours later, they were still waiting by the stage door.

So I saw this in Manchester on the last night. Like Take That but certainly not a mega fan. Love musicals though and watched The Band which I enjoyed so thought would check it out.
The crowd - were not as bad as had feared. Yes they are over excited and probably many non regular theatre goers and there was quite a bit of camera action and over enthusiastic singing at times. BUT they were at least engaged with the show. Which is better than being non engaged and rude. Was similar at Bat Out Of Hell TBO.
The show - sadly I was just a bit underwhelmed. Was nice. Pleasant. Lightly enjoyable. My biggest two disappointments - it looked cheap, almost Kenwright cheap. I really thought this was gonna have a wow factor, sets and staging wise. Secondly - NOT ENOUGH MUSIC amazingly for a TT musical. Nearly all the songs were shortened versions. And some of the dialogue sections were so long I was just gagging for a song. The story is fine, but at my age is very much themes we've had a million times before. Certainly had echoes of Calendar Girls. It isn't so good it should trump the songs though.
I though The Five To Five boys were great. Would have liked to have seen much more of them!

Have arrived at Sheffield for tonight's performance. Given that the male: female ratio is about 1:300 I suspect I am not the target audience! Fingers crossed for a fun night!

Have taken the time to think about that in the drive home. I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it either. 2nd act was better than the first, although the Shine was a highlight of act one. I loved the way they did Back For Good as well. Thought the 5 to 5 boys did really well, except for the act one concert sequence which sounded in a completely different key to the band all the way through- maybe it was the sound balance but it sounded horrible. My wife liked it a lot more than I did, and the whole cast received a tremendous ovation at the end. I can see why those who like Take That will love this, butfor me it just missed the mark. If you are a huge fan you will have a blast!
As an aside, I got a taste of my own Medicine when a man mountain sat in the seat in front of me. Not often my view is blocked!!

Can I make it absolutely clear, for the record, that the man mountain 'sitting' in front of ptwest was not me.

Can I make it absolutely clear, for the record, that the man mountain 'sitting' in front of ptwest was not me. Good to know - I won't knock you off my Christmas card list then. Have to say though, the legroom in the Lyceum stalls was very good compared to most, actual space between my knees and the back of the next seat. That almost never happens in London.

Did anyone see both this one and "Never Forget"? Which one is best (or worst?). I know many people didn't like "Never Forget", but I found it strangely entertaining. It's still one of my guilty pleasures. Of course I only saw the DVD so I didn't have to put up with crazy Take That fans in the audience.

Yes, it was cheesy as hell and not what I would call a good quality show. But it didn't take itself seriously and was just what it wanted to be: A fun night out. I guess being a Take That fan helped with my enjoyment - I can totally see why others hated the show. On a side note: The London production of Never Forget was - in my opinion - more enjoyable than the tour production that has been released on DVD. The changes weren't huge yet made the show look more developed (as far as a Take That jukebox musical goes).

I always thought of them as just a standard over the top boyband, but now I know they actually have some great songs.

I saw this yesterday afternoon in Bradford and really enjoyed it. I didn't really know what to expect and it took me a while to get in to with The Band just randomly appearing. I grew up in the 90s (although I wasn't old enough to be going to concerts on my own in 1993) and so loved the Ceefax on the curtain at the beginning, and the reference to recording songs off the TV onto cassette. I did not expect to cry that much though, I think it just tugged on my heartstrings and I found it incredibly moving. I didn't think the songs really fit the story-line like they did with Never Forget, which I also loved. In this show it feels more like they're just stuck in randomly. And Never Forget wins the rain effect in Back for Good (no rain in this show). I thought Five to Five were very good, although at times they were just the ensemble, and even stagehands at some point, and I wonder if that's quite what they signed up for. A fun afternoon out, and I'll consider seeing it when it returns to my area.

I do wonder how they get these statistics. Asking a dozen people outside at a given time and claiming it is representative of the audience of a whole?

Five to Five will be on Graham Norton's Radio 2 show next Saturday (28 October), along with Howard and Mark. They must have got a helicopter booked to get back to Bradford for 2.30!

It's already been recorded. That's cheating!!! When they were on Radio Sheffield, they refused to say anything cos it was a show day.

The Band's twitter now saying they're travelling down Friday night after the show then back up on Saturday. The schedule is crazy. Can't a "do an interview by going into your local studio" thing suffice anymore?
A couple of the boys have missed shows recently. No wonder.

Just seen a billboard for this, little shocked to see massive photo of take that in the middle, the bands name in big letters on the right and the show logo on the left.

Image is showing now.
I suppose if you have Take That involved you're going to use them as much as you can and I'm certainly not opposed to seeing Robbie on billboards everywhere, even though I expect his involvement in all of this is/was minimal!
