I agree, she made the role her own.

I agree, she made the role her own. Totally agree and same for me. I really wasn’t sure about her casting but she is adorable and very funny in this.

Anyone who has sat on front row. How tall do you have to be to be able to see the stage comfortably?

Looks like they managed to get some famous faces in for Press/Opening night tonight.
Made sense that most of the event took place outdoors, but I feel bad for anyone sitting in the Savoy to watch the show tonight.
The Savoy is a sweatbox even in winter. Imagine today? Yuck

Yuck I was there last night and the air conditioning was lovely!! I was down in the stalls though so not sure if the upper circle is quite as cool.

No reviews yet for this anywhere? All That Dazzles says the review will be posted this evening. The delay seems odd but maybe they didn’t want them coming out at the same time as Next to Normal which had the press night on the same day?

Bloggers will love it to keep getting free tix.
Actual critics will (rightly) take (particularly) the second acts writing to task.

A quote from WOS 4 stars
“The problem is that the songs, with music by Fey’s husband Jeff Richmond and lyrics by Nell Benjamin, are syrupy where the script is sharp. They aren’t unattractive but they don’t have much style, and they crucially extend the show from a snappy 90-odd minutes to a slightly sagging two and a half hours. It remains essentially wise and very likeable, but it’s less potent than it might be”
What a piss take
It’s a musical
It defies belief that critics are so stunted and starved of cultural richness that they have dropped standards and expectations are that low and accepting of sh*te

The forgiveness of mediocre music in MUSICALS baffles me more and more every year! (This is a general point. I’ve not seen Mean Girls!)

What interesting is I saw the show last Friday matinee and actually preferred the second half which I didn’t think would happen as I love the first half on broadway. But weirdly I really enjoyed “Whose house is this” which used to be one of my least favourite songs in the show. I do love the new extended version of revenge party though. I wasn’t a fan of the first half that much. Took till revenge for me to really start enjoying it

It was a solid 3 star for me, but what struck me the most was that none of the vocals were anywhere near the strength of the Broadway cast recording. Whilst it didn’t affect my enjoyment, it just wasn’t the ‘belt-fest’ it was on Broadway. Castle’s big numbers especially were just ‘ok’.

There you go, just proves you can never second guess theatre, a pertinent example is Legally Blonde which is similar to this, same lyricist (Nell Benjamin) which didn't do too well on Broadway but was a massive hit here, the exact opposite of Mean Girls. I will now be looking for a reasonably priced ticked.
I saw Mean Girls a couple of times on Broadway and loved it.

Reviews aren’t going to help or hurt this show. People are either going to go because they know the film or not. I happen to love it.

Hi! First forum post - nice to meet you all!
Just wanted to put my two pence in about Mean Girls. For me, it was a solid 7/10. I’ve been looking forward to this for years and I think, if it wasn’t for the hype and anticipation, it would’ve been a 9. I’m not sure what it is, but there’s just something lacking.
Strangely I don’t agree with the consensus that Act 2 is particularly weaker. The music in Act 1 is much better but it felt slow, Act 2 felt a lot better in terms of pacing but the music doesn’t come up to much, at least in my opinion.
It looks really good and the cast is extremely strong, nobody out of place. Just not quite sure what’s missing for me.

She sang the hell out of her songs when I saw it. Way better than Taylor Louderman did in NYC

Regina arguably gets the best two songs in the show, and she did a good job, but unfortunately it didn’t blow me away like it should have for two huge numbers like that. I guess lip syncing parts of World Burn doesn’t help. I thought Gretchen and Karen were the stand outs.

I did find Castle a bit shrill at times.
Underwhelmed by the whole thing if I'm honest. Great cast who do brilliantly with what they've got and it looks terrific, I just found the material really weak and was pretty bored for the most part, a few mildly funny bits and a handful of OK songs but not one I'll be seeing again.

Shrill might be a bit harsh, but just not the massive vocal & performance I was hoping for. It’s just as much on me, hoping they’d found someone that could do it 100% justice. She nailed the characterisation, but as you say Gretchen & Karen outshone her.
