It's moving to Broadway after a Boston tryout. I think it will do much better on Broadway.

Well I loved this. A couple of dodgy performances but certainly not from the lead, who was superb, and the effects were inventive and theatrical and simultaneously cinematic. Got a standing O as well (took a while for it to materialise but it did).

Does anyone have a discount code for this show or a way to get cheaper tickets? My odds probably aren’t the best, because the only day I’ll be in London to see this will be dec 30th. But any help would be appreciated!

But any help would be appreciated! Rush tickets rarely sell out and are available well into the morning. Similarly every day TKTS sells highly discounted tickets (eg today there's a 65% discount). |

I recall a producer messaging me on here some time ago (pre covid) asking where we’d got info about their show going on sale at a regional theatre. They were nonplussed when I replied that it had been seen advertised on a “next season” leaflet at the theatre in question. I suppose sometimes a muddle can result these things happening out of sync.
Re the tour there will be limits to where this can go because of the design presumably, unless they change it significantly which would be a shame.

I assume theatres put shows on sale to entice their members. I’m sure if you’re printing your promo material for the next season and you know you’re getting a show it would be a shame to leave it off just because the pesky producers haven’t got around to announcing it! |

I may have a chance to catch this in London next week but it's also coming to Dublin on tour next year. Do you think it will lose a lot in the translation to a conventional proscenium staging?

I cant really see how they’re going to do it. They had to reconfigure the Wyndham’s to accommodate the Crucible design so there will have to be compromises surely. I remember a trapdoor being used, possibly more than one, and the way the lifeboat materialises out of the stage suggested that a trap room is needed. Do all of the theatres in that list have this? Also in a traditional theatre this is one where I’d probably choose the circle over the stalls because of the huge amount of projection onto the stage floor .

I can kind of see it working on normal proscenium theatres like the Mayflower, but the boat-shaped stage was quite central to the staging with the tiger and zebras coming through the audience and up ramps onto the stage. Any staging in normal touring theatres would be far less immersive, which is a major draw for the puppets. When I was sat in the stalls the puppets were within touching distance. And as others said above the lifeboat rising up through the floor (and Pi diving underwater through a trapdoor in the floor) are huge effects and idk how they could recreate this

It would've been less than half full. Which would've been a shame as this play was really something special. I had some problems with the start of the first act but the end of Act 1 and the whole of Act 2 were stunning! I do think it'll lose a bit of the magic on tour but hopefully they can keep a lot of elements that make it so special. Like you said the trapdoor bit is really gonna be missed. |

Finally saw this yesterday with an excellent Rush ticket in the Stalls. My only knowledge of the play is having tried to watch the film before on a plane and dozing off (which is very unusual, as I can't usually sleep on a plane).
Anyway, this is visually quite stunning and works well on stage. I was surprised how many people took in young children (one of whom kept asking questions of his parents). This isn't the easiest play for children to follow and it's quite gruesome at times.
Chirag Benedict Lobo who was on as Pi was excellent. Full of magic and excitement. The first half is stronger than the second, if nothing else because it's more varied.
It's not something I would rush to see again. The material just isn't strong enough. But definitely worth seeing once for the production quality alone.
