Have to say that I find the Royal Exchange’s programming very dull of late. Hardly anything showing in the main house has excited me for years.

Have to say that I find the Royal Exchange’s programming very dull of late. Hardly anything showing in the main house has excited me for years. Conversely, having spent years submerged in the world Musical Theatre and only just recently getting into the wider realms of 'theatre', I'm very excited and enthused by the REX programming. Getting the chance to see well known and fundamental pieces of theatre by the likes of Miller, Brecht, Brighouse, on top of Shakespearean adaptions and unique presentations of well established musicals, is thrilling for me! |

Over the last year or so, I thought the REX programming has been very enjoyable. There have been some great productions staged. The recent productions of Death of a Salesman and The Producers have been particular highlights for me personally. I’m definitely interested in the REX production of Hobson’s Choice to see what they can do with this production.

WoS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Guardian ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Stage ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ And rightly deserved. Just back from today's matinee. This is bloody brilliant. Whilst a relative newbie to REX, I get the impression this is REX are their very best. A timeless, relevant classic adapted with a localised twist. Could not find one fault with this - which is very rare for me!! Genuinely funny and possibly the best epilogue/siege into a curtain call I've seen in a theatre, ever. A very rare 5 stars from me. |

Blimey SS! Praise indeed. I’m there next week. Indeed! Loved it. Normally I'm not a fan of 'pedestrian' and when I read "80's Manchester" alarm bells went off but I went out of intrigue. This is a really well devised adaption, with some brilliant acting. Will be interested to read your response. |

I really didn't want to see this play again and only the fact that it was Tanika Gupta's adaptation made me risk it - and pay what is imo a shocking amount compared to my usual spend. I'll be in the area and really wanted to see some theatre but nothing at Home or the Lowry for me so this was it. |

I went to press night for this to review and I think it is a solid 4 stars! The only niggle I have with it is that I think a bit of dialogue could be trimmed a bit. A superbly entertaining, funny and "local" show.Esh Alladi as Ali is fantastic. As is Shelina Peiris as Durga but the whole cast is excellent. Even the older audience members seemed to enjoy the modern take on the original. You can't help but smile at the end. Go and enjoy it

Definitely the most entertaining & enjoyable version & production of this play I have ever seen; makes me think a few other (tired old) classics would benefit from the same treatment. Shakespeare's plays are endlessly re-imagined and reinterpreted but the work of other writers far less so, though it does happen.

Cannot recall any REX productions transferring to London in the recent past, usually try to get to Manchester a couple of times a year but didn’t manage to fit this in.

A young work colleague went to watch this on Friday night. It was his first time at the theatre (both the REX and theatre generally) and thoroughly enjoyed both the REX and the production in equal measure. It’s great to see a newbie get a lot of pleasure from theatre, particularly as he said, it’s something he had no interest in prior to his visit and has definitely changed his perception of theatre and would definitely go to see more stuff in the future.
