Quick question regarding the gunshots - do the actors fire blanks or is it more of a sound effect like in the recent Miss Saigon tour? Basically, will I be on edge the whole time or are they relatively ok? It's a while since I saw the last version of this tour and I was too young to really remember however I wouldn't worry much. There is one real gunshot during one of the barricade battles in the West End production which was very startling the last time I saw it (a couple years ago) All of the barricade scenes are muffled recorded gunshots (not loud) besides that one after someone yells "sniper" I have no idea if that will be in this tour or even if it's still in the London production. It's obvious when the Valjean/Javert gunshot is going to happen and there will be time to put your fingers in your ears. It isn't the loudest of stage gunshots though being from a rifle type weapon. |

Hi all new to posting but have been lurking on the site for awhile really enjoying all the info and wit from the different posts. I'm an avid musical theatre goer, day seats and Rush tickets being my first choice as I work in London but live in the Midlands.
I've just booked to see Les Mis in Birmingham in April as the husband won't go to London. The tickets are hellish expensive compared to London but that's his Christmas present sorted.
Looking forward to seeing Killan Donnelley last saw him in Kinky.

Saw this at Curve and thought it was excellent. Sound team did a great job and proved how good the casting team was.
Killian is a very strong Valjean. Nic Javert is as credible as others have said, and Stars got a great reception. Katie Hall combines beauty and power in hr singing, and does an excellent job charting Fantine's decline smoothly without any sudden leaps downhill. Great to see her back from Austria. The Thenardiers are as good as expected .
What was interesting was that the combination of some of the very best established names, very young and often new, leads and an ensemble with a lot of newcomers, worked very well for me. Enjolras looks young but sounds strong and like a leader. Marius looks even younger, but has an impressively strong vocal. Cosette also looks young but she has a beautiful voice to match the look. Eponine i thought was really good - enough feral to suggest her parents, but well placed in the firmament of likeable Eponines, and sounding well up there with the best of them. Thank the lord she's avoided the pitfalls of the annoying riffs, and making street Eponine unlikable. Tegan Bannister is one to watch. The ensemble is also impressive- it sounds great in the big numbers, and characters like the Bishop were strikingly good. Actually the ensemble numbers were well up there with the Titanic group sound - where some of the ensemble came from, if i read right.
The changes from the original were interesting. I thought some added, some didn't. The projections of the galley and the sewers worked well - not so the river for me. Not sure the Enjolras and Gavroche leaving scenes work as well - the revolve has its moments. The arrangement of the scenery missed some moments -with Fantine's bed scene viewed from an odd angle , and no Cosette appearing by mothers bed. And the barricade seems to have gone from the absurd Great Wall of China substitute in the film to the opposite extreme. it looks like the one Captain Mainwaring threw up in Dads Army and wouldn't stop anything much above an airgun pellet.
And there's some odd (American?) political correctness creeping in . Spitting on Valjean is out - but you can slap him. Wine substitute is off the menu. And there was no Heimlich maneuver producing vomit pie. Katie gives great slap, so that works. But the inn scenes i think are better laughwise with the old gags in.
Big, long, standing Ovation when i went. The largely sold out audiences to come should be pleased.

I have a ticket for this in my name and used my ATG account but it was paid for using my mum's card, does she need to collect the ticket from the box office or will it be fine for me to do so on the day?

Every ATG box office I’ve been to has never asked to see the payment card. Just bring the booking confirmation email printed out or on your phone to show to staff 👍🏻 |

For those interested in the orchestra they did a takeover on Instagram today, worth a watch.
I went to see it tonight in Dublin. It was stunning. I've seen it several times in the last couple of years and I was still blown away. The projections and set have definitely been expanded on since the previous tour, but some of it was as I remembered. The moments I was waiting for was Javert's Suicide and the sewers and they were spectacular, I was not disappointed.
I was wondering how they would do the final battle, I'd say it works better with the revolve but it was pretty impressive what they did.
Onto the cast, Killian obviously amazing. His voice cracked on the finally note of Bring Him Home (he styled it out by making it sound like he was choked up with tears) and he held back on the high notes after that, I'm not surprised with the number of shows they're doing!
Nic Greenshields was incredible, Stars got a huge applause. Best Javert I've seen for a while.
I was quite looking forward to seeing Katie Hall as I saw her previously as Cosette, but her understudy was on who was fantastic. Today was her first show and you'd never know. Lovely voice.
I'm fairly indifferent on Marius and Cosette but impressed with his mature voice knowing he's only 18.
The rest very capable, not much more to note.
I'm rambling on but only other thing to say is the Bord Gais theatre is massive! I looked around during the (immediate) standing ovation and what they see every night looking out must be pretty overwhelming. Killian actually got quite emotional and they've been there for a month.

I liked her. She was likeable enough and Little Fall of Rain was for me, perhaps the most emotional I've seen.
I'm tempted to try and get a ticket for Milton Keynes.

It doesn't surprise me, Cameron Mackintosh likely wants to so he can pay less royalties to the original creative team, It's lucky that Phantom is co-produced with ALW as I suspect the original Phantom would go the same way if he had full control |

If they combined elements of the tour with the original it could be fabulous and fresh. Keep the revolve but bring in some of the better elements of the tour such as the projections and Javerts leap.
