With the chatter of School of Rock potentially exiting the Gillian Lynne in 2020, just throwing my vote for Standing at the Sky's Edge to go in there afterwards. The brutalist set would fit perfectly in the vibe of this theatre, and the space is pretty similar to the Crucible anyway!

I desperately would love to see Flowers for Mrs Harris come into town. Even just the Hampstead Theatre would do me, just seems a stunning show! |

Sorry if this is a silly question, but what are the chances of this production finding itself in London at some point?
I know it’s still rather new, but I’d love to see this show but unfortunately have no way to get to Sheffield.

I'd love to see it transfer but with the best will in the world I can't quite see it. And if it did I'm not sure the West end would "get it".
There are universal themes yes, but fundamentally this is set in an iconic (to Sheffielders but no one else) social housing scheme in Sheffield. I still think it's a bit niche.
Jamie made it but I suspect that the drag connection is responsible for that. As good as SATSE is, it doesn't have that same appeal.

Very pleased to see that Standing ... was awarded Best Musical Production at the UK (regional) Theatre Awards.
It was a very good night for Sheffield theatres with 4 awards for Life Of Pi too.
I do hope Standing also gets a London transfer, a tour, or at least another run at Sheffield soon.

Missed out on this when it ran in the Steel City and regret it...sounds just my cup of (Yorkshire) tea...surely some producer could take a punt on this as I believe it sold well originally?

I would love to see this as I am fond of Hawley's music and saw him perform in Birmingham only a few weeks ago. Couldn't get tickets for the production, hopefully there'll be a London transfer or another run somewhere else.

With perfect timing, I was at the world-famous Crucible Theatre yesterday afternoon for a panel discussion on architecture, social housing and the making of Standing At The Sky's Edge. I may have some good news...but not yet. Firstly, this was described, time and again, as a play, proving I was right all along. It's so annoying! 🙂 Chris Bush was only brought onboard 10 months before opening night. The Liberian family were originally going to be Somali. During previews, there were concerns that the show's flow was being disrupted by the audience reaction to all the Henderson's references. This could possibly be the only time in theatre history that creatives have had to make a decision about cutting a condiment! In the end, they all survived uncut. Anyway, eventually someone asked the question we all want to know the answer to. Understandably, she couldn't, or wouldn't, give a definitive answer, but Chris Bush was very, very positive that this will have a future life somewhere in the not too distant future. There have also been a couple of meetings about a film version, but that's probably fairly standard for anything vaguely succesful. I'd be very surprised if WARP hadn't taken a look, for example. So there we are. Not a firm yes, just yet, but I think we're getting closer, and definitely not a no. (V. disappointed, lynette, that over the course of 90+ minutes, less than five were devoted to discussing the beauty of concrete!) |

I do hope this gets a second life. It is in my top 10 all time favourite performances I have ever seen. It’s just where it would go in London as after seeing it at the crucible it has to be done in a theatre with a rake so the footprint of the central flat in the story can be seen by all the audience.
The Bridge (or in my wildest dreams) the Oliver would be perfect.

Christmas musicals very rarely have anything to do with Christmas, so I wonder if this could first be the 2020/21 Christmas musical at the world-famous Crucible Theatre? Wishful thinking, probably.
If the National has any business acumen, it will sell tissues alongside ice cream and programmes! 😥

The Crucible's own new season announcement is, apparently, this Friday, so we'll find out then when it will be returning.
