Well, it seems it wasn't wishful thinking after all! This WILL be the world-famous Crucible Theatre's Christmas show, running from 30 November 2020 until 9 January 2021. Slightly earlier than usual, but understandable with the London transfer.

Public booking doesn't open until Saturday 28 March at 10am which, selfishly, suits me fine.

Is it too early to start using the acronym SATSE?

Yay. Even though I live in London I would much rather see this in Sheffers.

Much cheaper, much nicer theatre, easier to book for and I can combine it with a trip to see the family

and right there, out of the window, is Park Hill itself, in all its brutalist beauty.

You can actually see the flats in question as you walk into the crucible. Providing it’s not pitch dark, foggy or pelting down with rain of course.

I agree, I've travelled from Kent to Sheffield for the last four Christmas musicals at the Crucible, also I enjoyed SATSE so much last year I don't want to wait until 2021 for a revisit. I'll be at an early matinee.

Can then hold out for some possible discounting later in the run at the Olivier to see it there.

Not been this excited for an NT season in years. What with this, and Small Island's return! Cannot wait!

The performance schedule for the Crucible Theatre (world-famous  ) is now available online:

Evening performances at 7.15pm (You'll be able to catch the earlier, 'only' 51 minute train, BurlyBeaR!)
Matinee performances at 2.15pm

Press night looks like 4 December, with a 7pm start time

The first mid-week matinee is on Thursday 10 December
The first Saturday matinee is on 12 December

Dementia friendly performance on Thursday 17 December at 2.15pm

Matinees on 22, 23 & 24 December, then 29 & 30 December

No matinee on 31 December this year, so I shall have to find something else to keep myself out of trouble

I had cause to drive (be driven in an Uber actually) past Park Hill on t’ big roundabout and was delighted to see Granelli’s ice cream and sweet shop still in existence nestling in the foothills of Park Hill in its incongruous position just off said roundabout.

I immediately thought of our very own  TallPaul of course and wondered if he had ever reached over the Granelli’s counter for a Traffic Light Lolly, a Sherbert Fountain, a quarter of Yorkshire Mixture or whatever spice he was partial to. He’s much older than me so I might not recognise his fave, obvs 🙂

What a coincidence! I was also driven around Park Square roundabout yesterday, by Dave. Along with a bad back, he has an 'interesting' driving style.

As for Granelli's, from my recollection there is no reaching over the counter. Some retailers have been using Perspex screens for years, not just since March 2020.

It's very kind of you to offer. I'll have a quarter of midget gems next time you are passing.

This isn't a show I'm familiar with but planning in going. Just went on Apple Music to see if there was a cast album and found an album with the same title but not a cast recording, it said Indie Rock. I am guessing this is the music from the album..
Am I right and would someone who would not normally like "indie rock" enjoy the musical? Any advise from people who have seen it?

As far as I know there isn't a cast album. The album you have found on Apple Music is the Richard Hawley album with the same name as the show. The show is all Richard Hawley's music but taken from his various albums. If you're not familiar with it, a better indication of the type of music would be from the "Richard Hawley Essentials" playlist on Apple Music but obviously that will have him singing rather than the cast and isn't a playlist of all the songs in the show. I'd say "Indie Rock" is not a very precise description of his music, it's more Singer-Songwriter, more melodic than you might expect from the "Rock" term, more ballads than you might expect.

I agree. I had no idea who Richard Hawley was. I found the music in the show to be very accessible.
