Nice interview with Mina Anwar in ‘Northern Life’ magazine about this musical. The Lowry run is described as a preview run so it sounds like a try-out? Mins says she is currently directing and choreographing a new musical called The Dolly Mixtures at South Shield’s Customs House. The story is about a troupe who raised thousands for charity appearing in working men’s clubs and never took a penny for themselves.Sounds interesting.

Ever since this sold out and I can’t see it, I have a strange desire to see it 😐
To be more specific I have a strange desire to see Colleen Nolan “la la la” (©Steve Allen) her way through it.

I'm still completely perplexed as to how it sold out on very little information other than the inclusion of Beverly Callard, limited press and a very bad photoshop image.

Unfortunately not. I couldn’t get a ticket for either of the Sat shows so I’m at the REX for Macbeth and then off to see Tracie Bennett at Hope Mill instead.

Seemingly not. I’m completely puzzle how this managed to sell out with basically no info and little press. Oddest development. Still slightly suspicious of the amount of seats ‘sold’ before any real announcement earlier this year.

I would imagine that as soon as Callard was announced it was all over the Corrie fan sites and that would have shifted a fair few.Add Nolan into the mix and that would have done the trick because of that dreadful tv programme she does every day. The fact that she’s never acted in her life won’t make one jot of difference to the Loose Women demographic.

Callard didn’t particularly work for Rocky Horror Show at the Opera House, they were comping nights and others were fairly sparse. At the point 80% of the Thunder Girls capacity was already sold, Callard was the only name associated with it.

Oh good grief - do we really need yet another show (play? musical? what *is* this thing?) where women are falling out with each other and especially over a man?
From the trailer, this seems to me like it will be a one-set play, with a dinner table as the main item of set. But maybe there are flashbacks and things, and the walls fly out and they're 'on stage' at a concert or whatever? That way they can crowbar in the 'musical' bit?
Also - from the trailer, you can't just rip up a contract and then it's not valid! FFS, that is not how the law works! (Sorry, I'm a qualified solicitor, and this nonsense just annoys me - because people then believe this stuff - making my job around 12 times harder than it needs to be.)

Rocky Horror Show is a very different kettle of fish though. A lot of people wouldn’t go to it no matter who’s in it, because of perceptions about audience involvement, subject matter or sweet transvestites.
Thunder Girls feels much less edgy.

And the finale will be a ‘reunion concert’ where the audience are encouraged, if not tricked, into standing up and dancing or something so that a facsimile of a standing ovation is achieved. I can see glow sticks being handed out or some such nonsense 😑. (DAMN I want to see this! 😬)

Saw this yesterday and felt sorry for the cast having to deliver the atrocious script. They tried and it was just about entertaining but I certainly would not rush back! We all got given a copy of the paperback of The Thundergirls. An indication as to how well it has sold. Having said all that the audience was largely female and I did hear some say they enjoyed it.

Well the whole script seemed outdated and poorly thought out. The cast of which Colleen Nolan only appears in the 2nd act apart from one line at the end of the first act did their best. I think it largely appeals to women , although the script seems to set the current Me too movement back decades. It basically consists of a repetitive slagging off of each other. If this is how groups of women speak to each other , admittedly this is a drama , then pity help them. It seemed a poor relation to dynasty , even including a fight! As I said earlier a lot of the audience seemed to enjoy it, but it wasn't for me or my partner. I cannot see much of a future for the piece in it's current state. The repeated bad language also seemed to denigrate the drama as if used more sparingly it may have had more effect.

What is it? Musical? Comedy? Melodrama?... Does Beverley Callard do a step areobrics routine in the middle?

Is it thinly disguised Spice Girls?

Colleen Nolan was actually as good as the others acting wise. I had previously seen in her in a Panto some years ago. Probably good experience for this. The 2nd half was better than the first with Colleen in it. The four each had a song although only Coleen and Sandra Marvin sung live. Carol and Beverley mimed. There was a group song at the end where again probably just Colleen and Sandra sung live.Carol's and Beverley's vocals sounded autotuned. I have heard worse. No orchestra just backing track as there were only 5 songs and even they weren't too long, though that may have been a blessing as chart material they were not! There were comments about other girl bands through the show. Sandra Marvin, recently of Emmerdale had obviously take over from Mina as I hadn't realised she was in it until we got there. This will I am sure appeal to some. I haven't been able to find a review yet.
