Possibly! Or a smash hit!! I wish it all the best but I was totally surprised to see this in one of my programmes last weekend. Even old theatre queens I know, don't know this one. It'll have to sell on Manford's name which I think, correct me if I'm wrong, The Producers even struggled with. |

Aren't people bored of seeing Jason Manford in nearly every other musical that goes out on tour recently?
It limped along on Broadway for a year and that was with a huge name in the lead role, Is he that much of a draw??

I think he’s extremely mediocre. After the initial novelty of “oooh a comic who sings” wears off there’s very little there.

Sadly that is my thought, I may love the show but I don't see it having much appeal. I mean it's about a massive musical fan who gets to work in the theatre solving a case, for a lot of people that's not that interesting. It's a shame that Robbin Hood is such an awful show, however I do still love all 4 versions of "In the same boat".

I'm not a Jason Manford fan but I like the sound of this. Thinking of booking a cheap ticket at Dartford [ as cheaper than Bromley]. Have just ordered the Broadway CD online too.

I saw it on Broadway and really enjoyed it at the time but...I remember very little of it which probably says a lot. It would be a better show for a limited run somewhere like the menier or even Chichester with a built in customer base

Manford is quite popular and they will need another star or two in the supporting cast. However I will probably book for Birmingham as its Kander&Ebb.

Ore Oduba is playing Aaron Fox, the guy that sings one of the best numbers in the show, that was played on Broadway by Jason Daniely? So i presume has a fantasic singing voice??

Oduba appears to have no stage experience other than Strictly related stuff. He has no stage training as far as can be found. He has no professional singing experience that can be found (or amateur)
Classic stunt casting...

Ore has apparently been training to take on a musical theatre role - he's doing a stint as Teen Angel in Grease soon too. Apparently he wants to get into performing and stage work, I wonder if he's been encouraged by his Strictly partner Joanne Clifton.
It would seen strange him wanting to move into stage work considering he was a "rising star" at the BBC and his Strictly win boosted his profile. He always came across well on TV and I thought the BBC would have given him a big push as possibly their top BAME presenter.

While personally I completely agree with this, the stone cold reality of commercial theatre is that without name recognition tickets to theatre are hard to shift. When I ask friends (yes I have friends!) if they want to see a particular show, the first question they ask is “who’s in it?” and if they don’t know them “off the telly” they simply don’t want to go. So, perhaps without the stunt cast person perhaps the show may not happen and consequently the other jobs of cast and crew would not exist. With regard to Ore I suspect the very well paid TV presenting jobs have simply not materialised as expected after his Strictly win and like other performers after their recording career failed to take off after X Factor, have turned to musical theatre for employment. |

I know, I agree about the commercials when it comes to casting, money has to be recouped. But it seems like a very far stretch from being a sports presenter, to an ok dancer in SCD to a full-on acting and singing role in a musical.
We shall see!

It will take a lot more than stunt casting to give this obscure musical a hope of succeeding at the box office. Yes, it is great it is getting a chance - but realistically, there isn't enough awareness of it as a show for it to arrive with much of an audience. And it is so unlike the rest of the Kander/Ebb back catalogue that it will be a struggle to sell it to Cabaret/Chicago fans.
I love ambition - but producers at the moment are taking very, very big risks

If The Producers couldn't find a regional audience, what hope is there for Curtains?
It's also not the kind of show where stunt casting doesn't hurt- as Teen Angel it's a role almost perfect for a celebrity cameo. But Curtains is a very tightly plotted musical mystery. The only weak actor- well it's a spoiler- but let's just say Ore doesn't fit that role.

Unfortunately,I personally find Ore and Jason to be two of the most irritating tv stars out there,so for me,the casting of ‘names’ is a negative on this occasion, when perhaps ‘unknowns’ might have made me buy a ticket...and for that reason,I am out!
