Re “older” performers. I agree that so many cast members seem too young. That is not to say they lack talent or ability, but I think they do sometimes lack the gravitas to take on these roles. I remember seeing the cast of around 2011/12 ish and thinking that many of them , Scott Garnham, Fra Fee , Carl Mullaney, Adam Linstead were just right in terms of age. There were one or two, usually Marius and Cosette who seemed to be cast straight out of drama school. Now, it seems the norm . One year it’s GSA grads, then Arts Ed, then Royal. of Music. I think the role of Javert is increasingly being given to younger actors. I even thought that Hadley Fraser was too young. I know it is good to challenge our preconceptions of the various roles, but I recently heard a recording of a recent Cosette cover belting the notes rather than singing them as a true Soprano a la Rebecca Caine. It just didn’t sit right with me, but I suppose it’s personal preference. Also does anything that Mme T may one day be cast in the way of the original role played by Susan J Tanner?

🙄 Yep, and fresh out of drama school too so without the experience to command a stage and tell such a powerful story (in my opinion). Wow, what a sweeping and insulting generalisation. Not at all. I specifically referred to the 2019 UK tour, so it is an observation and opinion based on a performance I saw.

A quick Google of dates of birth of the original cast shows that only Michael Ball & Frances Ruffelle were what you could call fresh out of drama school age & Ruffelle actually already had several years' experience.
Colm Wilkinson 41 Roger Allam 32 Patti LuPone 36 Michael Ball 23 Rebecca Caine 26 Frances Ruffelle 20 David Burt 32 Alun Armstrong 39 (can't find a DOB for Susan Jane Tanner)

It's preferable in these types of discussions to stay on topic and offer opinions on the topic at hand, whatever that may be.

I didn’t think the concert would return with the announcement tbh. I thought we would just see the full production return at the end of June. Surely there is no point in it returning for a week or so before they need to change back to the full production, unless they will do the concert for a couple of months until there is confirmation there won’t be another lockdown/vapidity restriction. I hope I can make my new date, I prefer moving the dates to another rebooking scramble! I guess we can be fairly confident that the May date for socially distanced theatre will happen - so they can be as confident as circumstance allows that they can get the concert up and running. The June date. Well, am massively hopeful, and keeping everything crossed it will happen - but theatre with no social distancing seems, hmmm, less certain than the May offering shall we say? Makes sense to run the concert until they can be sure the sit down production can start again. I'm sure most of the same cast will be back and don't forget is basically the touring set. On tour the get ins were 3 (maybe 4) days so wouldn't take long to get it back in. Maybe a week for rehearsals in the theatre and tech - could be as little as a two week interruption I'd say! Anyway, chuffed the concert will be back and can't wait to finally see it. What I find more of a mystery, is what Phantom will decide to do!

I'm not too hopeful about this - they've changed the wording on the booking pages from 'postponed' to 'cancelled': "Following the latest Government announcement, England is currently under Lockdown restrictions. Because of this, performances of LES MISÉRABLES - THE STAGED CONCERT have been cancelled from 1st March onwards."

I can make mine assuming Back to the Future doesn't open until July (I have 2 dates for Les Mis, the first 'pencilled' date I can definitely make). For the shows that did open in the autumn I can't see why they wouldn't reopen ASAP once allowed - though I assume there will be some recasting here.

CHF will be doing Cinderella and Michael Ball Hairspray. No idea about Alfie Boe (though does he do anything without Ball these days) or Matt Lucas though TBO would like to see another concert take on Thenardier. Wonder if there will be a hideous scrum for tickets again or if everyone is over it after so many cancellations.... If we don't have Ball and Boe assume it might be easier to get (more) tickets!

As someone whose ticket got cancelled because I chose not to buy an expensive one, I'm over it. I love Les Mis, but I haven't forgiven DMT for that fiasco, so although I am very keen on being back in a theatre as soon as I can, it won't be the first to get my money.

I was in the same boat, but rebooked when I had the opportunity and have seats that would have cost more! Swings and roundabouts - I think DMT did the only thing they could really. My grumble is paying for DMT+ and losing that advantage when I lost the first tickets. Hopefully I'll see the advantages of DMT+ at some point.

Likewise, still not forgiven them for that shambles. The only thing that takes the sting away is the performance I'd booked got cancelled anyway due to going into tier 4.

I wonder how long they plan to run the concert version for, as they've now taken tickets for the full production off sale.

So seems it could be quite a wait for the full production. Assume the tour will have a similar fate. I have Bristol and Birmingham tickets coming up!

I have 2 concert and 2 staged performances booked (one was a replacement for Sister Act!), no Les Mis tour tickets to confuse things! I have labels in my email and symbols on my countdown app but think I'll need a spreadsheet too (20 bookings up in the air right now) I hope this means there is an announcement soon. I have to say I do prefer getting given a new date to a scramble, its a starting point at least. EDIT: just realised I'm double booked for the October date
