Has anyone been distracted by the way this is performed in the concert style? It’s largely played to the audience apart from some very rare moments where the characters look at each other or direct their singing to someone else on stage. I just thought it looked odd for someone, for example, dying in someone’s arms to be singing out to the audience instead of looking at the person holding them. It seemed incongruous all the way through really, and I couldn’t get past the fact that they were all very much in character without actually interacting with each other. I also found the artifice of the mic stands at the front a bit distracting when they were all wearing microphones. Sounds bizarre. Glad I didnt' go! It's not like it's different from any other Les Miz concert from the past 20-30 years.

I've just listened to this on catch up - meh. I tried to be open minded but Ball as Javert is just...weird. He sang Stars well but at no point did I feel like I was listening to Javert - it was "Ball sings Stars". And the Thenardiers are just horrible. Why do they have to be panto-villains?! Playing them as lovable rogues is awful - they should represent the worst of society. At the most, they should be darkly humorous, IMO this really impacts the integrity of the story. I liked Carrie though...

JOJ responds to the “Where’s Alfie?” Incident. Pretty interesting interview and getting to hear his perspective on a variety of topics. Also, loved “Carrie’s very vocal about these issues on Twitter, if she’s got the time to do that, good luck to her”.

I like JOJ! I think he comes over well. He is able to talk about the whole Alfie/ Audience member/ Carrie thing without sounding controversial or judgemental.

Oh yes, he’s an absolute pro. Also loved how open and honest he was talking about the rising theatre prices and his opinion on the film adaptations. Would be great to have a chat with him.

Given the current situation, I am praying very hard that the Blu-Ray/DVD release is not delayed!

There was talk of a cast album being released as well. Is that not happening now?

DVD and bluray back to being currently unavailable on Amazon, and that seems to be the case for everything I've looked at that's due for release between now and end of april. I think all releases will be pushed back until the worldwide pandemic has declined. Delivery companies are being drawn in to help with the war effort (for want of a better word, although this is a war really)

Also added a streaming option. filmedonstage.com/movies/518-les-mis%C3%A9rables-all-star-concert

Watching the 25th concert from sky arts that I recorded a few months ago. Saving Eugenius & Miss Saigon for the darker days to come. Will enjoy watching Carries Fantine again soon.
NB - Nick Jonas is happening. Why on earth? What? Who? But mostly why? Is that a baby Muscato?

I hope this brightens up someone's day 😀 It made me a bit tearful, especially since I was supposed to be at John Owen Jones' concert at The Other Palace last night which, of course, didn't happen. It has been rescheduled though, so I've got my fingers crossed!

Looks like this release has been pushed back to November according to the amazon listing. Which I guess makes sense to get the Christmas market. April was aa bit of an odd choice, just missing mothers day

Just went to Amazon to order it for April and saw November! Gutted ☹️☹️☹️ While they would have a captive audience releasing this during the lockdown, they won't sell many theatre tickets on the back of an April release. They maybe think they'll need this extra publicity to boost ticket sales when the live productions reopen.

Theres no guarantee Amazon will be shipping as normal as we get deeper into this crisis, most shops are closed and supermarkets focusing on essentials. Digital might work but could also get easily lost in the crowd. Christmas just makes sense, even before the virus April was an odd release date

I'm just saying that April may make sense in that people are locked in their houses and therefore unable to access live theatre - in the same way that there are lots of initiatives at the moment to stream theatre productions. But that wasn't really my point anyway.

The DVD release says November but Amazon Prime Video says release date April 20th. I've just purchased in the hope it will be available to view on Monday.
