I'd say there's a HUGE difference between the New Wimbledon and Palladium Panto audience, George22. You would be far too young to remember, but for entire generations, the Palladium WAS the annual panto event in literally millions of diaries around the country - and it could run to Easter at times. The current producers are cleverly cashing in on the nostalgia and it is working for them. The New Wimbledon is the big one outside the West End (along with Hackney Empire, now, perhaps) but it won't affect the Palladium audience one iota, unless they nab Beiber, Swift and Spears themselves, I'd say. I can remember seeing Danny La Rue in Aladdin at the Palladium, in April! (I think it was grinding to a halt by then, as we went as a very large group, sat in the second or third row of the stalls, and they were all comps.) I'd encouraged my younger sister, about five at the time, to go up onto the stage to sing with some other girls and boys, the words written on a huge song-sheet. Danny was in full swing, playing Aladdin's mum. Madame Wanky-Woo, or some such nonsense. At the end of this bit, my sister came off the stage clutching a small prize for her efforts, which she then showed to our parents saying, "A lady on the stage gave it to me." |

I think this is fairly disappointing casting considering the hype and history of pantomime at the Palladium - O'Grady, Havers and Clary are panto regulars. I like the casting. But you can always go see John Barrowman, David Hasselhoff or Marti Pellow if you want other names. |

Surely you'd never get all of those names on the one bill ever though. If Paul O'Grady were to do panto it would be him headlining and no one else. Likewise with Julian Clary or Amanda (although not a fan). I don't get how some of us board members are snotty about it when it's a huge line up that befits the location and history. That said I haven't booked yet lolz... |

I think this will sell very well as the West End has not had a pantomime for a very long time and as others have said the Palladium Pantomime was a tradition for many years. This will sell very well with groups, families and older audience members who will take their grandchildren and remember when they used to go as children.
I don't think you need a big name for Cinderella as there are enough big names amongst the men. I think the big crowd puller will be Paul O'Grady who has a massive fan base and, although I doubt if I will be going myself, that was the first name I said "blimey" to when the cast were announced.

Nice to see Qdos have avoided their usual trick of cutting and pasting headshots onto different costumed bodies. The one of Brian Conley has been used for about 15 years now!

Does anybody else think that Wimbledon are late announcing their cast? I know they always do it around late October but surely when they've got some stuff competition at the palladium with a good cast, they would announce their headliners so people will book for them instead of palladium? I mean panto season starts in like 6/7 weeks!

Plus, Wimbledon usually have American stars, the Palladium has well known British stars that probably won't appeal to tourists. |
