On the one hand, I love David Mamet, and with Malkovich that would be a must see (this must be a contender to be NT Live'd surely?) But the subject matter is one I'm not sure I really want to sit through.

It's been a while since Mamet wrote anything even half as good as Oleanna. I have to say I thought this play was called Bitter Harvest, but apparently not.

Well I don't normally spend a lot on West End, but this is very special. While I appreciate Mamet is a divisive figure these days, when he's on form he is one of the very best, and of course seeing Malkovich onstage too! So I bought a ticket in the 4th row, £10 off is a good deal for a stalls ticket.

As I said previously, I would like to see Malkovich on stage, but Mamet tackling the wesenstein stuff has the potential to be pretty messy....

As I said on Twitter, David Mamet is great writer, for men. He struggles with women (we are very complex after all) and his strongest plays look at the relationships between men (Glengarry Glen Ross, American Buffalo) perhaps Mamet will prove me wrong but I suspect Malkovich's character will be unashamedly sleazy, Doon Mackihan's character will be a hard woman who doesn't believe the other women because Fein is her boss and Ioanna Kimbook will play the young victim.
I hope Mamet does something interesting with this but as Ahmed says in the age of great documentary makers do we need to hear a fictionalised account, from a man, about the brutality of other men?

Also the words 'badly behaved'and 'comedy very much sounds like they'll be treating the whole wesentein thing as a joke

Doon is wonderful in Smack The Pony, as excited to see her as Malkovich! Watch Series 4 so far on iPlayer. I love it! The first episode where Cathy and her husband Colin relive their first wedding dance in their neighbour's living room was absolutely hilarious. She makes Beverly from Abigail's Party look like a Samaritan! |
