I had great fun with this, Andrew Scott - as usual - did absolutely deliver and I liked the other actors just as well :-) Great stage design, fun music (Does someone have a list of all the songs played ?). Would have loved to see it a second time, but I had no free spot in my schedule. On another note: thank you to this forum and the theatremonkey, without both these sites I would be lost -it is a great opportunity to get an overview for planning all my theatre trips from Germany to London  |

I know people have loved this but could I just ask, for those who have seen it, how worth while would you think it is seeing it in the cinema? I ask because due to my work day tomorrow, I will be going non stop all day and will arrive at the cinema about 15 mins late , with no time to eat (I suppose popcorn will do)
I have no problem with this if it's worth it. I do love Noel Coward and Andrew Scott is such a good actor.

So, if you think that you might kick yourself in a couple of months... (It is uneven, and Scott is the very very best thing in it. If I were in charge of filming the NTLive for it, I would never let the camera leave his face when he is onstage.) |

Really looking forward to seeing this tonight, heard nothing but good things about Andrew Scott's performance.
NT Live is great for those of us that live in the sticks as going into London is a schlep. I've just booked to see Cyrano De Bergerac on NT Live for February too.

Well, I loved it. Andrew Scott is an absolute masterclass of acting and I would happily go and see this again at an encore screening. The cast were phenomenal and they must all have been exhausted after every performance!

Quite enjoyed this. Laughed mostly at Andrew Scots performance and deservedly so. Good performances all round. Agree that the gender swap casting wasn’t entirely perfect but i was fine with it
Found some of the camera shots odd. I take it the movement of the camera were limited in the old vic but at times you couldn’t see the actors faces because they were out of frame
But who the hell was that red haired guy who did the introduction. His delivery was horribly stilted with a creepy smile and stare

I also saw the NT Live screening tonight and thought it was excellent, what a performance from Andrew Scott! Definitely deserving of his recent award and more in the future I hope. I found the play hilarious and didn’t really mind the music being from different eras. We had a 20 minute interval which I’m not sure was really necessary, 10 minutes would have been fine. Our screening was about half full. Sophie Thompson was the only one who’s performance I wasn’t keen on and her ever changing accent. Luke Thallon was great, especially his scene in act one. A great night, 5🌟

Thoroughly enjoyed this tonight although found it a little bit long. As most people have said before Andrew Scott was excellent and hopefully many more awards will come his way.

I think it seemed obvious he was reading his lines so seemed to be concentrating on that, which to me takes the focus away from what someone is actually saying. He seemed an odd choice to do the introduction as he doesn’t have a link to the production that I’m aware of? Interesting to see the little cast interviews though. |

I didn't see that but to me the key point is that Garry should be played by a charismatic actor and the audience should believe that everyone wants to sleep with Garry. Andrew Scott = yes. Rufus Hound = no.
Plus, I agree with justfran about Sophie Thompson's dodgy accent.

I was there too (assuming you mean The Spring), it's a shame they had the volume so loud in the first half, it was really grating. I think that's why some people left, I heard grumbling about it. The 2nd half was much better. I really enjoyed it, agree Andrew Scott was a better casting choice than Rufus Hound, but I did enjoy Tracy Ann Oberman as Monica in the CFT production. I absolutely hated the set, it was like a 1980s night club, nods to art deco here and there but the colours were hideous. I thought the gender swap worked well, and it would make sense that both men and women in those theatre circles would find him attractive, but I think the Joe/Garry scene would have been far more effective (and surprising) if there hadn't been the conversations about Garry's previous conquests with men, and the discussion about Morris being in love with Joe. Given the time it was set in, I would expect it to have been a bit more subtle.
Not sure if it has been mentioned here, but someone said on Twitter that Andrew Scott manages to look like both Ant and Dec at the same time! Once you see it, it can't be unseen!!

just hugely enjoyed this sexed up version in an encore screening...….pure joy, and surprisingly moving and thoughtful. Great set and visuals, but oh mister Scott mine eyes are dazzled. Twice a day must have been hard. I can't imagine Coward being so energetic.

I loved this when it was on at the Old Vic and saw it twice. Very excited to see it on screen. Noel Coward is one of my faves. I remember sitting next to an older lady at Hampstead once and mentioned I was going to do a marathon day of Coward at the Nuffield (RIP 😭) and she seemed very surprised anyone under 60 liked him. 😆
