Hey guys worked out it’s aroind a month roughly till CFT announce there summer season, any rumours or gossip on what it may be? As I know me and my girl was rumoured around now, this time last year.
Would love to see “gentlemen prefer blondes” or the boyfriend, as I know they love old school musicals.
What would you like them to do?

Why the secrecy? Apparently staff/board members have to sign non-disclosures until it is officially announced. It’s bound to be a musical 40+ years old in the main house. After last year I would like to think that whoever fronts the musical is capable of delivering. Matt Lucas was woeful and so was the show.

If it is Something Rotten! I think I may just lose my sh*t. I think it’s more likely to be Oliver! or Oklahoma! though, but I can dream.

I’m thinking something more old school or from a well known composer.
So my guesses although obscure the fiorello! Or something.
Who knows the reason why hello dolly might not come to London maybe because Daniel Evans wants to do British version of it! And it’s easier to get a british star to commit! Ofcourse I’m probably wrong ! But you never know..:
Probably will be bloody Oliver! 😑 and it makes sense as it haven’t had a revival in long time

Well unless they are going to revive Oklahoma! produced here in 2009 (as long ago as that!) I assume it will be Oliver! Yawn...………………….

Personally, I'd be happy with an Oliver revival as I never got the chance to see it at Dury Lane, so if I could do a double show day with something else at the CFT I would definitely make a trip down for a weekend visit.

Just thinking about it, MTI have just released the revised version of Oliver! to the amateur market - so I would be somewhat surprised if it was getting another big professional production at this stage.

A regional theatre revival of Oliver would not necessarily affect the amateur rights unless it was expected to transfer the production to the West End. I think Cam Mack has the WE rights to the show so I suspect this would not be expected to transfer. It would be big box office for the theatre - it is still a hugely popular show - and the theatre will need a guaranteed box office hit to anchor the summer season. |

There might end up being a regional bar on major amateur productions if it does go ahead.
That is certainly the case with Me and My Girl - where there has been a ban on amateurs doing the show in bigger theatres within 50 miles of London. This has been the case since the Sheffield production was expected to transfer (and then, of course, didn't)
Similarly, when the RSC last did The Crucible - they got with rights withdrawn from any other company within a certain radius of Stratford - even those who had already started work on productions.
Rights can be so tricky.

Despite the massive numbers of musicals out there "available" for amateurs and professional companies to perform - some of which I have never heard of, the pool of reasonably guaranteed box office hits is remarkably small. Musicals are ridiculously expensive to mount even on the amateur market and box office sales are crucial. Hence the endless (yawn) revivals of Oliver! My Fair Lady, Annie, etc. etc. Even well known critically acclaimed shows can be poor box office - most of the Sondheim shows for example.
Chichester are not going to risk producing No No Nanette.
