They are flying in someone (unnamed) from the US and rehearsing up more understudies so they can deal with this Covid situation according to The Stage.......and who's betting that performer from the US will be for one of the two lead roles and end up staying....

Seems a huge oversight by the producers not to rehearse the understudies before the show opened. I would say that in regard to Broadway's requirement of being fully vaccinated and mask mandate, it works but it's not foolproof as some shows have had to cancel performances such as Wicked and Aladdin due to positive cases.

Understudies get very little rehearsal before a new show opens, they'll just watch and take notes from the sidelines usually and maybe a put in rehearsal if they're lucky.
So it's one of the leads that has covid? Surely someone could step up for the smaller roles.
Unless you live in a literal bubble, nothing will ever be foolproof. People still have their own lives outside of the workplace

Yes. One thing I think people forget is that the show is still being worked on. Properly rehearsing understudies when the track they are covering is changing and being rewritten on a daily basis would be very difficult, particularly as the understudy may well be learning multiple tracks, let alone that the creatives and the stage don't have the time available. If audiences were the source of covid we would see ushers and sound desk engineers dropping well before cast members. The show I'm on has been running for months and the only cases that have been had within the company have been caught when people were away from the show.

I wonder if it’s Conor Ryan (Christian on tour) flying over?
The Toulouse was out on Broadway (Sahr) and his understudy was on all weekend so maybe Jason Pennycooke is one of the cast members? Who knows?

Whatsonstage says it's a supporting lead coming over, but then it says it's from the US tour, and the full cast hasn't been announced yet - so I'm not sure. I'm inclined to think Toulouse is probably a good shout for the actor.

I think I’ve found it - a credits page has popped up on the UK site for Austin Durant and he’s not listed on the cast page. He previously did a short run as Zidler on Broadway.
Could be wrong!

Life of Pi also cancelled this evening. Hopefully this won't be the case for every show as it seems to be the beginning of many cancellations!

Which would lead me to assume he has a touring cast role as yet unannounced, as they haven’t started yet and having done the Broadway stint he’d know the show already! I can’t see anyone else making sense.

This week's basically written off - all shows cancelled between tonight and Saturday.

Annoying. I'm due to see it next week and the sounds like I'll be seeing what might be essentially a preview with cast changes. I may switch my tickets to much later in the run, given the reports so far it can only get better (surely)

Number of the principals have covid so are isolating, this WE production of Moulin is not exactly identical to the US version so swings and covers are rehearsing it this week with the guy that been brought over.

Sahr flown in from NY to play Tolouse in place of Jason.
So that makes Satine, Christian, Duke and Tolouse all out with the Rona.

If they closed the show for a full week, why bring someone over from the US, unless someone is out long term?

If they closed the show for a full week, why bring someone over from the US, unless someone is out long term? Because Lautrec has covid and (I assume his understudy too?) They can’t guarantee that everyone will just be fine to get back on stage after the 10 days of isolation so it must be a safety precaution.
