It’s just the acting , stage presence and charisma thing she’s missing.

I assume since they've been in previews, they've not rehearsed the understudies yet. BTTF had a similar issue a few months ago.

Yes assume its lack of understudy prep time...although shouldn't that be a priority in previews at the moment?
Hope everyone is well soon though

Bit short notice isn't it, cancelling less than 4 hours before the show? Surely they do their Covid testing first thing in the morning. A lot of people may already be on their way!

Seething here as already in London for the show tomorrow. They haven’t offered a full refund just a voucher to rebook - like I’m well disposed to doing that - especially after shelling out for travel and hotel. I thought they were taking covid so seriously - well I would warn others maybe to avoid making any theatre plans until covid is gone. I certainly won’t be.

I hope you find something nice to do as an alternative.

I was meant to be seeing this tonight until I got the email regarding the COVID update. I’ve ended up booking for Get Up Stand Up instead on a £25 rush ticket last minute. Sat in the theatre cafe this afternoon I think a few people must have got the same email and logging onto TT to get a last minute replacement. Though a shout out to the box office staff in sorting out my card refund tonight without issues. Tough times for the show.

Covid must have seen the WOS video and taken matters into its own hands. Joking, of course. Wishing the affected in the company a speedy recovering and sorry to those affected the cancellations.

I'm taking my girlfriends to see this a week today. I'm more interested in the production and set design...but that WOS video.... How many are there? 😐 @burlybear - TWO - ALTHOUGH now the shows are cancelled tonight and tomorrow, I'm not holding out much hope for Wednesday. Going to make alternative plans if needs be.

Bit short notice isn't it, cancelling less than 4 hours before the show? Surely they do their Covid testing first thing in the morning. A lot of people may already be on their way! Theatre actors don't get up first thing in the morning, if you're in the theatre until 2300 and don't get home to midnight, you're not going to be in bed until 2 or 3 am typically. It's a real shame to see performances cancelled, bad enough if you live nearby, completely horrendous to have hotel and travel booked. Again it's another reason that previews should be significantly more discounted these days than they are, where the risk of cancellation is higher. That all said, the commentary with complaints about the show not taking Covid seriously are a bit rich, these are all real people with real lives, commuting via public transport into the centre of London every day. Even taking social distancing precautions that the vast majority of the British public haven't bothered with for over a year, there's still a huge risk of contracting an evermore transmissible virus. I don't think it's fair to blame actors that test positive and quite rightly discover this by early testing and calling in sick, I'm sure they're completely gutted to be shutting down an entire West End show.

Question...do West End performers have to take the vaccine in order to perform? I know on Broadway, Laura Osnes refused and wasn't allowed to perform in a pre-Broadway production of Crazy for You.
If someone has gotten the vaccine and gets a breakthrough infection, one hopes it won't be terrible and I do feel for these individuals. It may be a pile on me, but I have no sympathy for those who choose not to get the vaccine, especially in a crowded theater where social distancing isn't possible.
I understand there are religious reasons for not getting it, etc, and that is one thing, but overall..."you" not getting the vaccine affects "me" because if there are cases, shows will get cancelled. I believe it's a sign of respect to your fellow neighbors if you one gets the vaccine, especially in the theater setting. Again, not sure if vaccines are mandatory in the West End, so just posing the question...

I just assumed they were testing around 10am/11am which is hardly first thing in the morning, even given their late nights. Finding out they have positive cases at 3.30pm just seems really late in the day, that's all.

I’m sure cancelling a sold out show isn’t an easy decision, let alone 3 shows. Those people can’t easily just be rebooked into next week. It’s pretty much sold out for months (unless you want to pay tons of money).

There are big delays with these atm…it’s a problem for all shows.

I think people are being a little unfair about that WOS video and jumping on that proverbial bandwagon. It’s far from terrible and I think everyone who has seen the show live have reported that the leads can definitely sing, they just aren’t great with the chemistry and maybe the acting has been sacrificed. And let’s not pretend this is the first time acting/chemistry has been sacrificed for a good singer in the West End. Hasn’t Wicked got by on that for a good while? What? ‘Wicked’ that opened in the UK with its broadway lead and a solid cast of West End talent setting its’ stall out from the beginning. We’d have got Chenoweth too if she hadn’t got greedy. It is still running and about to welcome one of the best UK talents we have. Call me when MR hits 15 years. From what I’ve read in the Wicked thread, and seen with my own eyes, Elphaba has not ALWAYS been with someone who is the best at acting but can belt a tune. That isn’t to say every single Elphaba has been this and obviously wouldn’t make any comment on Lucie as she hasn’t even started yet.

I'm sure performers are doing everything they can, I didn't say they weren't? No no I know, I didn't I think I'd said you had, sorry if that wasn't clear. I just couldn't be bothered multi-quoting. I don't know what the culture is like generally, but I know from one show that they were all taking Covid incredibly seriously because they know their industry depends on it working. There was a bad run a couple of months ago not long after everything re-opened with Pingdemic closures, but it seemed to have gotten a lot better lately. I think everyones afraid if there's a significant uptick and casts are getting shut down left right and centre again that it will force the Winter closure of shows.
