I’m relatively new to the musical scene & don’t know anything really about Joseph- what is it that everyone on here seems to hate so much about this show? Most of them haven’t seen it, and/or don’t understand its important position in the UK music/theatre scene of the last century. Don't throw me into that catagory then. I've seen it, I get it's significance to theatre. I just think its a crap score and show.  |

I've seen it, I get it's significance to theatre. I just think its a crap score and show. Joseph always divides opinion. Personally, overall, I like it. I do think it's entertainment for the masses but I do enjoy that sometimes. I like a cheesy musical score as much as I do Berlioz. But not with the Kenwright tour staging and orchestra setup. I imagine that with a new set, full orchestra and great cast it could be an exciting family treat. It would also be a good opportunity for some re-orchestrations. The classy kind though not 'Joseph Rocks!' |

The 1991 Palladium production and the 2007 Adelphi production show how good Joseph is when produced well. I hope it's a new production rather than the 1991 production brought out of storage.
I imagine they'll cast a name for Joseph, Jacob should be either Jason Donovan or Phillip Schofield although I suspect the latter won't do it as he's usually on his holidays from This Morning.

As I have said many times before - it is show BUSINESS! The Palladium is huge theatre to fill and ALW owns it so it does make commercial sense to mount this as it is a family show, hugely popular and in the school holidays.
No doubt there will be endless speculation for months about the casting...…………..

You thought the stage door was bad at Wicked? The Jason Donovan days were madness..... The first last night for Jason, the crowds at the stage door were so big, my friend was pushed so hard by the crowd, she ended up having her foot run over by a car! On the final last night, the crowds were so mad that at the barriers when he came out, the crowd surged forward and we ended up crushed against the barriers and I had a line of bruises that were so bad they lasted for ages. Feels like a lifetime away. Although the second last night was January 1994 so I guess it really was! |

The Paladium production with JD was the first West End production Mum and I ever saw - we’d be interested in seeing this again, I think this is the only Llewd Rubber musical I would want to see again

I actually think Charlie Stemp would be the perfect casting for this. I also wonder if we might see Sierra Boggess as the narrator.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I think they’d be wise to cast a pop star as Joseph- or someone with star quality like Jason Donovan had when he opened the show there.
Having someone wet like Lee Mead is not an enticing prospect at all.
Im not sure how big a production this can be when it’s playing a limited run of 12 weeks at the Palladium. I guess the plan would be to send it out on tour afterwards.

I believe I saw H from Steps’ understudy many, many years ago. Perhaps when the show was at a theatre on Drury Lane?

This is such a lazy, uninspiring choice. It’s been done to death already. I’ll wait for the casting to make a final decision but I doubt I’ll bother.

Joseph is a nostalgia piece for many...weirdly we were talking about it in choir on Monday. Those of us in our 30s remember the Jason Donovan/Phillip Schof era as our first introduction to musicals....older people were remembering taking their own kids to that. Also it's still a great family musical. It's catching, and fun, and has a fit bloke with his shirt off for a bit...something for everyone right?
Hell I still remember wanting to be the narrator as a child, and if I had chance well I wouldn't mind seeing it as a full-blown West End version again.
I think this falls into the 'those who love it will enjoy it coming back, those who don't...well it's not hurting you, it's not taking up room for something as because we all know the West End has a lot of vacant short and long term slots next year, so let's let ALW rake in some cash, and the rest of us can have a good time.
