Thanks for the tips. Shame the Time Out offer starts tomorrow. Sorted for Front Stalls £20, really helpful box office lady. Seems we may be hindered by a tree occasionally, but I’m only really going to hear Rob Houchen sing so for £20 I can live with a bit of foliage. I don't even remember there being a tree so it must have been used very sparingly. You should be good! |

There is no tree in this production, but there is a roman column which will interfere with certain scenes in you sit in the extreme far left seats in the first few rows. Still good value for £20

Went last night and really enjoyed it. Had originally booked box seats but venue contacted us to say view not good (looks like speaker stack blocks view) so originally moved us to another box. Asked if able to go in stalls instead and ended up being offeredfront stalls central rows. Opted for Row E which was great.
Stalls looked almost full so they do a good job getting people in at the last minute. No one in side seats first half but quite a few second so guess people moved down from the rear.

The pity, and which perhaps will for ever taint this show for me, is Adam Guettel and his incredibly dodgy views. It left an unpleasant taste in my mouth that the show couldn't erase. What are these incredibly dodgy views? I wasn't aware of this! (Though had never heard of him before Light) |

@sharpe12 He seems to believe that anti-white racism is a thing, he came out in favour of Brett Kavanaugh stating that Dr Christine Blasey Ford lacked credibility, and by his own admission he has been - at the VERY least - unkind to women over the years. So he's probably been not-great for years but I just can't get past his thinking that "Christine Blasey Ford's timing is very suspicious" is a take worth not only having but also worth stating in public, that was a very difficult period for a lot of us. "Anti-white racism is a thing": Zimbabwe's seizing of "white" farms? Where does that fit? I'm not trying to take part in this argument, I'm just curious whether it fits the definition or not? I have a cousin who is married to a white South African professional golfer. When they lived there they had to have guns for protection unfortunately. |

Ah, thanks, I catch the drift of the posts now. I'd be a little careful saying white people can't experience racism in the West, in that case. Anti-Semitism, for example, is racism. Well yes, but no one discriminates against Jewish people for being white, they discriminate them for being Jewish. What I was trying to say is that white people in the West cannot be discriminated for being white. |

Saw this last night with my sister who, quite frankly only went because I was talking about it, and I LOVED it! Despite knowing very little about it, my sister actually enjoyed it too.
Despite listening to the cast recording for years and watching the PBS recording, there nothing quite like seeing live. And, let's face it. we've waited long enough for it to come over. It's a shame it's such a short run.
Firstly, the set. Simple, but incredibly effective. I also love the fact that throughout you can see the orchestra. There's something quite beautiful about several arms shaped just so, moving in synchronicity as violin and the harp are played.
Such a lush, sweeping score.
Special mention to the lighting design and costumes. One to twice I was blown away by the beauty of the dresses being worn.
I wasn't too bothered about the singing in Italian. Although I don't speak the language (wish I did) we both understood what was going on.
I thought Rob Houchen as Fabrizio was truly excellent. His voice was crystal clear and it was obvious how much work he had put into his Italian, pronunciation and diction. I believed this guy was in love.
Dove Cameron was on last night and although I'm not really to up to speed with all go her work, I thought she perfectly captured the childlike innocence required for Clara.
I personally has no problem with Renee Flemming's acting and vocally, of course, she was in fine form.
Believe it or not, this was the first thing I'd ever seen Alex Jennings in. Loved the character. Likewise Liam Tamme, however despite how good he was in American Dancing, it's a shame he didn't have much more to do. Likewise Celinde Schoenmaker, who was (simply) outstanding.
I was trying to explain the plot to a colleague at work today and the complexities of the relationships.
Genuinely, so pleased that I got to see this.
I left the theatre wanting to back to Florence! Lol!

Not really sure bad faith whataboutery is the pivot needed in a discussion around Adam Guettel.
It sometimes feels as if there is a comfort blanket around the London musical theatre scene. It emerges whenever conversations reference the wider political themes in a production. It almost always pops up around casting choices.
Conversations in this city on the form start from a different place than those with NY friends or the wider conversation and that makes me sad.
Re Piazza. Dove Cameron is charming and an interesting contrast with Kelli O'Hara. For anyone who saw the replacement Broadway cast and is aware of the casting controversy from out of town to Broadway they will know there was a clear shift back to original vision.
On Italian.... the two songs in question are fairly obvious as to what they are singing about. One even explains and translates. Rob Houchen left me in no doubt of his emotional arc with that aria.
