This really excites me- love a few of the songs on the cast recording and it looked like it was performed beautifully when it was on Broadway; shame it didn't fair very well at all!

Interesting to see this is produced alongside Selladoor, meaning it's likely for a low budget tour. Shame, as a big production would've been lovely!

Will Amelie be French this time? On Broadway she was american and it came off odd.

UK tour confirmed after the initial run at the Watermill, visiting Wimbledon, Exeter, Wycombe, Oxford, Edinburgh, Bradford, Leicester, Birmingham, Glasgow and Woking, with more venues to be confirmed. www.whatsonstage.com/newbury-theatre/news/amelie-musical-uk-tour-watermill-2019_47888.html

"tour internationally" - they'll be lucky.

Oh how interesting, this is using the new Haymarket Theatre in Leicester, not Curve. Well, not complaining there if that is going to house tours and productions now too. Three venues in the city now.

I quite like some of the score but it’s not a knockout. Also the lyrics are quite terrible

If they're bringing it to my local, I'll certainly pay a trip. Quite a size difference from the Watermill though, could be interesting!

Great news - it's running at the same time as The Color Purple at Curve so that's a two-show day sorted 😀

The size of touring venues is ambitious. Watermill sized space to New Theatre Oxford is a big leap - for what is, unless they get a big name, going to be a niche show.

The New Theatre in Oxford will swallow this show alive.
It’s have done so much better in the Playhouse - closer in size to Newbury. That said, I like the film, and actor-muso can work well (it did with Calamity Jane when I saw that a few years ago...)

Slightly off-topic, but I also find it interesting how many tours are using the 'new/re-instated' Haymarket Theatre , I guess it's down to lack of availability at Curve and De Montfort Hall (which doesn't work for all shows due to no fly-tower) and shows that are already programmed in there. I would have thought that the fees the Haymarket will be charging the productions will be less, however I don't think the pricing structure is quite right for the shows yet and they need to have discounted options for people who can't afford £30-40 per ticket to open up the theatre to new patrons - for comparison Curve has a great membership scheme offering 15% discount on all shows as well as lots of 2 for 1 nights throughout the year. 16-25 year olds can often get £5-£15 tickets for shows too. Maybe they have some options in the pipeline. Along with Amelie, that will be 6 professional touring musicals within the next 8 months that they get there which is great (Rock of Ages, American Idiot, Madagascar, Avenue Q, Little Miss Sunshine).

If you look though they are all sell a door productions, so it seems that they have some sort of partnership going on there. I'm happy about it because usually i'd have to go to Birmingham as the closest place that these sort of shows would be put on, so this is a very welcome development. I have to say until i looked because of Amelie i actually had no clue all these shows were on at the haymarket so it was a great surprise. I must say i never thought about checking there because i thought it was more a community and comedy/concert venue since re-opening and it was still just Curve for most theatre productions.

Booked for the Watermill this morning. Really impressed by the pricing, plus I’ve wanted an excuse to visit the theatre since I saw it featured online (WoS I think).

For anyone yet to book this and able to get to Wimbledon, the ATG Boxing Day sale has great seats at £25 for the Wednesday and Thursday it's there. Glad my ATG Card is still valid otherwise the fees are about £6 on top which is a joke! Just thought I'd mention it though x

Thank you, Rukaya, since needless to say, ATG haven't emailed me about any offers at any theatre.

*gasps* Don’t even joke. I’d be returning my ticket quicker than she can scream victim if it ever were. It would be casting suicide so thankfully it wouldn’t happen hopefully.
