Memories of Broadway 2002. I HATED it and was so bored I wanted to jump off the circle balcony. I will NOT be seeing this If you do change your mind, may I recommend that you get a ticket for the Stalls?

First preview was an exceptional night at the the theatre. A genuinely rare pleasure. Moved to tears. Still choked.

Interval report - it is actually pretty good. Kelsey Grammer is fine and nailed Impossible Dream

Anyone who has been to see it yet can you tell me if Luke McCall is an on or off stage swing? I have asked him but he hasn't replied. It generally will determind if I buy a ticket now(ish) or wait a while until I find someone is off.

The set for this looks truly hideous. I was on the edge about whether to see this but that has put me of 100%. What a shame. Was really looking forward to your usual incisive and comprehensive review of the Coliseum Summer musical. Well..... I’ve now been offered free tickets so I may have to give it a go..

Went in with very low expectations, but actually this is great! It got a rapturous reception from the audience too, I think word of mouth will be very good although I'm not sure if that's enough for ticket sales to pick up as much as they need to. Seemed pretty full last night but then again a lot of people had moved to the evening show from the matinee following the cancellation. It is fully staged. There's only one set (the dungeon Cervantes is taken to by the Inquisition) and the show within the show is done using props found in the dungeon - as I understand it this is standard for this show, it actually wouldn't make sense with lavish set changes. The oddity is that the dungeon set and the costumes in the framing sequence are present day. Costumes for the Don Quixote play are in period. They don't really do anything with this concept. Orchestra sounds amazing. The cast are all fine. Kelsey Grammer clearly isn't an operatic baritone but he can do the necessary comedy and pathos for the part, it's a very good acting performance, and I had no problems with his singing. Other leads were great (last night was Danielle de Niese) The show itself is odd - let's face it there's only one memorable song, but it's a very good one and they sing it a few times . And at the start, after the overture you get what feels like a very long talky opening before the music kicks in again. But anyway, worth seeing! Although I should point out I paid £25 for row D of the stalls in the TodayTix rush. Wasn't hard to get the rush seats, I didn't book till about 10:10. Other people near me had paid over £100 for their seats which is crazy. A few people did vanish at the interval but those who stayed gave an instant standing ovation. Programmes were £6 and looked very thin, didn't buy one. Looked like other merchandise was available in the ENO shop (where the box office used to be, on the right as you go in)

So I guess despite the weirdly bitter and snarky tone of the discussion here this might actually be worth a watch for a non-musical fan? I'll definitely try for a £25 Rush ticket, I've never been able to afford to get that close in the Coliseum before. Such a spectacular venue, shame I'm normally up in the balcony with the view obscured by the overhang.

For £25 Today Tix Rush for a good seat it has to be worth an evening.

The show was originally written without an interval, by the way. Maybe one of the first to do that, before 1776 and Follies by some years. It’s a very moving show; in a world where we we are losing hope, it’s a timely rejoinder to not do so.

Surprised that I knew (and prefer) a couple of others. After listening, decided I will go to this.

Yes, I was being unfair, there's at least three memorable songs: Impossible Dream Impossible Dream (Reprise) Finale (Impossible Dream) (also been listening to the Broadway recording on Spotify today and actually it is a great score) I'd completely forgotten that Carter USM had a hit with Impossible Dream back in the 90s

They look to be releasing extra seats during the day via the TodayTix rush, just looked at 1PM and there are 10 tickets available, got offered row J in the stalls. It's also on TKTS which has £75 dress circle seats for £45.

I'll be there today. Looking forward to it. Have seen two productions before, one on Broadway and another one in Madrid.

Keep wavering on this. Not sure what to do as it is not one that I have ever seen live. It’s a coin toss job,I reckon.

I do get the impression that the people who have been saying it will be terrible now WANT it to be terrible in order to justify themselves.
Wouldn’t it be great if it was a huge success?
