I won tickets to see this and went last month- I enjoyed it a lot. The 2 guys playing the leads were brilliant. I went with someone who hadn't seen the film and she enjoyed it too - even expressed an interest in seeing it again.
It doesn't appear to be selling very well which is a shame, the cast is great, the venue interesting and the material entertaining. I'm not sure why it's not more popular.

A lot of people don't know it exists. Virtually every time I've told someone that I went to see it, their response has been "Oh I didn't know they'd made that into a play"

I went to see this again on Wednesday, and I enjoyed it more the second time. We didn't know what to see and rush tickets weren't offering up anything good so grabbed some tickets which were reduced to £30. They were meant to be restricted view but it wasn't really anything that which ruined the experience. In fact you could see into/through the tent when it was up!
This really deserved to do better so it's a shame it didn't.

They hardly have any budget to advertise this, hence the poor sales. A real shame as the 2 actors are great.

To have two famous actors of their caliber and not have a decent advertising budget borderlines on producer malpractice.

Amazing it doesn't seem to have much if any advertising budget yet has two top level US stars in the leads unless all the budget went on signing them up. I hope the audience picks up for the show.

Well there is only a couple of weeks left so I doubt it will. Its a real shame because I really enjoyed the play, the two guys are brilliant and the music really adds to the whole thing. I'm in London the next two Wednesdays seeing matinées so I may well try and see it again for one of the evening shows.

I observe that @sohoplace doesn’t really have a solid PR when it comes to selling their shows unlike the ones from ATG productions at least. I’ve thought Brokeback will sell out more and faster than Medea due to its lead actors who are more known to the millennial and Gen-Z crowd (and Lucas and Mike are some of the favorites to the Film Twitter/Letterboxd crowd, compared to Sophie and Ben, though these two also have shows on streaming). No TV nor radio guestings for Mike and Lucas that I’ve heard of promoting their play. I don’t think it’s the first time American actors struggled to sell in the West End. Amy Adams not long ago, and maybe Zachary Quinto in Best of Enemies recently.
They never posted a “House Full” or “Sold Out” performance of Brokeback, which is a shame.

Are there any deals about for this? I've just seen that todaytix are doing a 24 hour offer Also, Day Seats are on sale at the venue from 11am if you're able. From comments above it sounds like they're £25 and likely to be stalls, rather than the furthest away seats for that TodayTix have in their 24hr offer (but closer to the end of the run that may have changed if demand is up).

I caught the matinee today. I rocked up top the box office about 2 hours before the curtains raised and purchased a £25 day seat. There was enough time to purchase a light lunch.
I was seated in C41- an excellent view!
I thought this was terrific- I was moved, as I was when I saw the film.
I have only seen the film once, when it when it was first released.
I have gone back and read all of the comments regarding this show. I thought the two males were excellent- believable and really giving of themselves.
Lucas Hedges as the brooding Ennis Del Mar, slowly throughout the shoe coming to terms with his sexuality and his feelings for Jack Twist.
I agree with BVM’s comments- they gave powerful, intense, emotional, heartfelt (well, suppressed heartfelt) performances.
Martin Marquez's played multiple characters and when he was the rancher who sends the guys onto the mountain, I thought he mumbled and I struggled to understand him.
I also thought that Emily Fairn as Alma- Ennis’ wife, was outstanding.
For me, all of the elements of the film (that I remember) were there. Maybe not in the same order, but they were there.
I’m gonna restate what I said in an earlier post.
Jake Gylenhall was promoting his new film and being interviewed at the BFI where, invariably Brokeback Mountain came up.
The two things I distinctly remember him say was the following:
Heath Ledger- so much braver as an actor than he, or that he will ever be. In terms of the roles he chose, his acting method, he's delivery, is on screen presence.
The affair- it doesn't matter what your opinion on the matter is, this was a love story. It just happened to be about two men who were cowboys. These men were in love and nothing could stop that.
The music had me tapping my toe.
Bar a few sears, the theatre was full and a deserved standing ovation was given at the end.
First time in this new theatre. I walk past it regularly but have never been in till now.
There is a bar and toilets on all levels.
Merchandise- this was being sold on the fist floor. They were selling keyrings, play texts, posted, tote bags. T-shirts, CD’s and programmes.
Lucas Hedges came out to sign whatever was on offer, talk to patrons and take pics.
Mike Faist did not.
For me, this was a great way to spend and afternoon.

For me, this was a great way to spend and afternoon. I really enjoyed it when I went a while back. The 2 leads both came out then and were generous in signing and photos even though they had to go back for a meeting. A lovely theatre too.

Saw this last night and thought it to be brilliant. It was also my first experience of @sohoplace which is a lovely venue. Wonderfully acted and I think those who come in as fans of the book rather than the film will get more out of it. I thought the music was lovely and hope they release some sort of soundtrack, unless they are covers. I expect this has plans to transfer to New York with the cast and creative team attached to it so great to have caught it first.

I do hope this has a future life after some additional work is done on the book, particularly here in the States.

Saw this last week on a nice discounted ticket. I thought it was fine. Mike and Lucas were obviously brilliant.
My main gripe with this play is that the director said this: 'Ennis could be a straight man going through a complex negotiation of his sexuality' And Dan Gillespie Sells said: 'we're reluctant to call it a queer story'
With comments like that, it's no surprise that the play kind of fizzles out. Lucas and Mike are brilliant, so why is their relationship so under-developed? Why did I not feel that much emotion come the end? It's because the very soul of this play isn't understood by those in charge of steering it; scenes aren't given time to breathe, actors clearly don't understand their intentions, and to top it off they've got this (very good) band plonked at the side of the stage who just sing as the scene changes.
So infuriating when the film and the short story are so well done.
