It was always strange that SR-B had never played Richard II as he seems perfect for it - now he seems possibly a bit old for the part but let's see.
The Trump one sounds like it will go down well in Islington and continues London subsidised theatre's obsession with all things American.
Why another "version" of Three Sisters ? The original is good enough.
For me the most interesting one is the Vassa production - the NT have an adaptation in the works too but the Almeida have beaten them to it.

Did you see the production in i think 2000 also by the Almeida? It was part of their WE residence. Good cast, Tennant, Duff, O'Sullivan, Hancock.

Well, Simon Russell Beale as Richard II is a bit of a "WELL FINALLY". I loved how much everyone hated the last Anne Washburn, I shall be ALL over that one. Also anything involving Patsy Ferran is an absolute must-book.

Two month gap in between The Hunt and Vassa, enough space for an as yet announced show, maybe another Rob Icke? Heard Macbeth and Ibsen’s Enemy of the People rumoured for him, will be interesting to see what goes there though.

I know we must not automatically relate Shakespeare's play back to the real history - but my sense of Richard is not one that can easily be captured by a man rapidly approaching his 60th birthday (no matter how talented)
No doubt it will be an intelligent and engaging interpretation - but it won't be how I would approach the casting for this particular piece. (The same applies to the casting of the Globe production)
Part of the play is the conflict between the generations - the Old Guard reluctant to give way to the new. Young men eager for their chance to run things - the hotheadedness of youth.
Not sure how that chimes with casting late middle-aged Richards. I know we have to wait to see the finished result and not prejudge. But I have been thinking recently about how I would approach the piece and this sort of casting is not what I see in the text.

Haha i was about suggest what role SRB might be playing! He should have played this 15-20 years ago. I will probably go as i have missed too many SRB Shakespeare performances but...

Sorry to be the bearer and all that jazz. At no point have I said that their interpretations and choices would be invalid. But I am perfectly entitled to have my own opinions and to express them. I am not sure why you need to jump on so many of my posts in a negative way. It becomes somewhat tiring after a while.

Ditto, though - when I saw SRB was going to be in RII my first thought was "who as?". Still, the recent Hamlets have been as old as Uncle Monty (if my maths is right, Richard Griffiths was around 38 in Withnail).
