Ditto, though - when I saw SRB was going to be in RII my first thought was "who as?". Still, the recent Hamlets have been as old as Uncle Monty (if my maths is right, Richard Griffiths was around 38 in Withnail). Just on a tangent, I saw Withnail for the first time only a couple of years ago and was very disappointed in it, one of those cult films that have not stood the test of time for those who didn’t see them at the time in context. I had a similar reaction to the stupendously tiresome Blues Brothers which I saw long after it had achieved cult status. |

I'm not convinced that Withnail needed to be watched at the time to be appreciated; after all, it's well loved by uni students who would've been very young when it came out. My feeling is that it needs to be watched at the right moment in life; if you watch it when your life is relatively settled it will probably click less than if you watch it around your teens/twenties. |

SRB will have about 6 weeks between finishing RII before reprising his Lehmans in New York. Nice to see he's busy. Yeah but he knows the words..to both..I expect. 😁 |

You get the odd one (well, McKellen's Lear) coming up from Chichester, but that's about it. The RSC ones don't count as those transfers are built-in. |

Hamlet transferred from the Almeida to the West End, so there's precedent.

Because I assume he’s signed up for a significant Broadway run and transferring R-II after that’s finished would probably require extensive re-casting. Not impossible but unlikely. |

NT Live e-mail reports RII will be screened on the 15th Jan, does not look like a transfer is being considered.

It was always strange that SR-B had never played Richard II as he seems perfect for it - now he seems possibly a bit old for the part but let's see. The Trump one sounds like it will go down well in Islington and continues London subsidised theatre's obsession with all things American. Why another "version" of Three Sisters ? The original is good enough. For me the most interesting one is the Vassa production - the NT have an adaptation in the works too but the Almeida have beaten them to it. Did you see the production in i think 2000 also by the Almeida? It was part of their WE residence. Good cast, Tennant, Duff, O'Sullivan, Hancock. Neil, Hilary, Ronnie & Tony? |

I think you probably need to be in a phase of your life that includes heavy drinking. I saw it as a teetotal student and only found it mildly diverting. |

Having had time to flick through the map for RII it looks like the auditorium is going to be much narrower than usual. No side blocks and at least 2 seats missing off the ends of each row in the centre block of the stalls. Wonder what is planned. [bre] Rubbish, so more scramble for less seats then? |

I think in the past they’ve done this when the side blocks are kept off sale until they work out sight lines

Was expecting far more trouble there this morning - got the date and time and cheap seat I wanted, so happy:) Even though I'd forgotten to clock watch to get in absolutely on the opening bell...
